@Direkt: Yeah the accuracy of the monitors just seemed way, way better over the whole frequency range... as soon as I played some of my older stuff on there alongside some well produced tracks, mine sounded dull, lifeless + flat. Re: Abelton live

I went from Alesis M1 520s to Mackie HR824 MKIs. Quite a jump in price - about 3-4x as expensive, but the difference was like night and day. I still reckon I'd get better mixdowns if I got the 10" sub that goes with the Mackies... can't really justify the extra $$$ at the moment though. :)

Re: Abelton live

Those Tascams will be fine for starter monitors, although you'll probably find it a struggle to get mixdowns spot on. It's an unfortunate truth with monitors that you get what you pay for. You really will hear a big difference between a set of $500-1000 monitors vs a pair for $2000+. But you could a...

I use an M-Audio Axiom 25 (also available in larger flavours): http://www.cursoshacermusica.com/INDEX/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/axiom25_f.jpg It's pretty sturdy, but the endless knobs and lack of automap piss me off a bit. To possibly take this post a little too seriously: if it was a fart which permeates across a massive land area and is of unknown origin When you think about sound + vibration, there's often not a very central emission point. Sure, if there's a pair of fans somewhere emitting an incredibly loud 36Hz,...

La Di Da have a downstairs room that you can hire out (if you can stand La Di Da) with decks + bar, although they kick you out at 11 for the "real DJs" to come on, which is rather annoying if most of your friends are well known Melbourne DJs who are happy to play, LOL.

From my experiences, APRA are an utter fucking joke when it comes to royalty collection (as in, they won't even bother trying to collect royalties for you) unless you're Top 20 commercial material. You'd be way better off using PRS in the UK and putting in a mate's UK address IMHO.

Maybe you're right, although I thought it was likely that in the event of a blackout, you'd end up with some unrecoverable bad sectors (even with a full format) on a disk if it was writing. Not always visible immediately either - you might need to do a full surface scan of the drive to find the dama...

I know at least two big name DJs who annotate notes along with each of their tracks, including BPM, key, what time the bassline comes in/cuts out and/or when the "main" drop into the track is etc. From my experiences in DJ/production land, the most successful artists + DJs are the ones tha...

just yank the cord and don't even do normal shutdown I hope you're not talking about the power cord. Hard cutting the power to a hard disk can cause permanent bad sectors if the disk platter is being written to at the time. I think it'd be enough to "eject" the drive through the proper me...

Even if that were true, it'd hardly be a crime considering how easy it is to beatmatch on CDJs using the BPM counter.
