A Hacked Xbox was what I had before I stepped up to a HTPC. They are fkn great value, a little noisy though. Only real downside is that they can't handle HD media.

Man if you want pimp, build a meida centre pc and then you can plug anything into it. Any Satellite system, ATSC or DVB-T digital streams, Foxtel or any other pay tv service, Interwebs, streaming media from yo' network etc.... You are not limited by any codec. If you are missing one just install it....
