had a lot of issues actually. you got problems with copying and pasting and adjusting regions yet? mine was just terminating from all basic stuff, i am on a mac, but have had issues generally and specifically with AU and VST, mostly sorted now... if you own it contact tech support and they should so...

osx 10.5 can access 4gb per process yeh? so if you got 8gb ya DAW can use 4gb and the os can use the other 4gb 10.6 is 64 bit so it shouldn't have that limitation, but i haven't upgraded coz ableton don't support it yet. px. not an expert. def would not install any third party plugins early, the eq, compressors, verb, delay and soft-synths that come with ableton and logic (presumably cubase) give you plenty of flexibility and are visually great fo learning with as they have clear metering and graphs etc.
