he was tripping balls... to the point of screaming and charging into people on the dance floor and being completely terrified of everyone... he was completely covered in mud and had cuts all over his legs and could sit still for a second and was just wriggling on the ground then getting up, running...

what's cadence got to do with anything? Heaps dude. There's an optimum cadence for cycling. All pro cyclists have a rather high cadence, as they believe 90rpm or thereabouts* on a lower gear is going to produce less strain on the muscles compared to pushing a big gear at say 70rpm for the same spee...
