We are proud to invite music makers, vocalists and DJs worldwide to come forward, submit their favourite creations and show us exactly what they're made of. Applications for the Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto will be accepted from March 23 – May 4, 2007.

What is the Red Bull Music Academy?

The Red Bull Music Academy travels the world and sets up in an all-new out-there outpost every year, all beats blazing, all faders up. From Berlin to Melbourne, bossa to boogie, we tour the territories and tempos. The Academy brings 60 talented and motivated people together to learn from some of the world's premier musicians, producers, arrangers, DJs and mastering engineers in a series of lectures and workshops. The main recording studios run full tilt with a range of acoustic instruments such as drums and guitars, plus analog synths, vintage mic's and the very latest software installed in computer set ups in around eight smaller studios. In an informal setting the undisputed champions of every genre hang out, check out the musical activity and sometimes join in; before kicking back in the lecture hall, telling exactly what they do – as well as what not to do! Their words certainly do not fall on deaf ears.

Who can attend the Academy?

Applicants must be passionate about music, and they must be born on or before September 21, 1988 so that they can attend gigs in licensed venues in Toronto. Other than that, anyone with something original to express and a thing or two they want to learn is invited to apply. The 60 who are invited to the Academy will return with fresh knowledge as well as real, non-virtual friends around the globe and in their home city to help them realize fantastic new projects. Time now to spread the word so that the most deserving new music makers in your hood can apply to come along for the ride. Multi-instrumentalists, M.C.'s, funky drummers, beat makers, tambourine players, violinists and DJs – all have an equal chance of being involved.

Where & when will this year's Red Bull Music Academy kick off?

When the application process is completed, successful applicants will be invited to participate in one of two terms: September 23 – October 05, 2007 or October 14 – October 26, 2007. The 2007 Red Bull Music Academy experience will take off in Toronto, one of the biggest and most cosmopolitan cities of North America. It's a city that hums with creative activity and a myriad of cultures. Musicians from West Indian countries have powerfully contributed to Toronto's hip hop, reggae, rocksteady, soul and funk scenes since the mid '60s: including Jackie Mittoo and veterans of the Studio One and Trojan labels. These days the city hosts the full complement of modern sounds 'n styles that you'd expect from a city of this size: dubstep to electro-hip hop-booty bass madness; the finely carved techno splinters of the Dumb-Unit label, Jeff Milligan and frequent guests from Montreal; indie clubs jumping to Canadian bands like the Constantines, D.A.F.1979 and Arcade Fire; and deep house and disco parties drawing on a legacy of Canada's electronic dance from the late '70s and early '80s. Urban art both in galleries and on the street, innovative clothing designers and a large local film industry all feed into and maintain a lively interface with the city's music-making denizens.

How can music makers apply for the Red Bull Music Academy?

Application CD-Rs have been distributed to record stores and DJ representatives worldwide. These CD-R's contain video excerpts from some of last year's hottest lecture sessions; selected music produced at the Academy; and a short documentary clip to give you a glimpse of life inside the Academy – as well as the application form of course!
