actually, he's right - and everyone has to go at exactly the same time!

Seriously, the site has shower facilities and flush toilets.

The bunk beds showed in the photograph in the link are available to festival goers - however due to the small number of bunks it is impossible for us to accomodate everyone. The bunks are close to the music stage as well and may not be the best place to rest. However, there is an ample amount of camping space, both close to the stage and further away from it -depending on whether you want to be able to hear the music from your tent or not :)

Hi everyone, Erika here again,

Just to clarify on accommodation, the bunks are not available to festival goers as these have been set aside for our artists and suppliers, in particular the sound/lighting/VJs/caterers and ground crew who will be working around the clock. So ...... sorry to dissapoint :( but like Luke said, there is AMPLE camping space available.

I can confirm that there are flushable toilets and showers available. :D Yayeee to that.

Everyone,

Out latest announcement – Nic Jouin!!!

This little chappy will be joining forces with Mike Callander to do a versus set at Ostara this year.

We're ......... EXCITED!!!

NICHOLAS JOUIN

Nicholas Jouin is one of Melbourne’s most unique purveyors of minimal and techno music, and certainly the man within that scene who is most committed to creating a true party vibe. Not content to merely find and play new records, he works equally hard at staging his own events and to supporting the music and events of others.

Having been a punter in the midst of some truly magical eras in techno: in Paris (especially during Laurent Garnier's heyday at the Rex club, where for Nicholas it all began); and in Melbourne, (during the late nineties when Luke Slater called that city the ‘techno capital of the world’), Nicholas believes that, with the right attitude some hard work, magical moments in music like these can happen again and again.

So he began organizing some of the first dance parties on Penang Island (Malaysia) before making his way to Melbourne in 1999, where he quickly became a legendary after hours DJ, and has continued to do so ever since… often by coaxing the punters and other DJs back to his own home where he had installed a sound system to rival the one he’d heard in a club the night before!

Cut to 2007, and Nicholas Jouin is one of the co-founders and residents (alongside Dave Pham, Mike Callander and Andrew Jobe) for the legendary Nano parties (set to reach its 3rd year of operation very soon). Through this endeavour he has made a very real impact on Melbourne’s ongoing exposure to, and engagement with, minimal techno… through his unique DJ style, his love of quality sound systems, and for his positive approach to partying!

Perhaps because he is equally happy on the dance floor as he is behind the decks, this very capable and unique DJ is one of Melbourne’s quiet achievers. Never interested in blowing his own trumpet, he is more likely to tell you about the greatness of his friends or heroes or the precision of a Funktion One sound system. So if you’ve spoken to him already you know that he finds Richie Hawtin and the M_nus crew as inspiring today as he was inspired by the likes of Laurent Garnier and Surgeon yesterday.

Yet it is through his own DJing and infectious positivity that he consistently impresses the punters and other DJs across various genres, indoors as well as outdoors, with his passion for new and interesting music, and for his uncanny connection with the dance floor whenever he plays.

Ostara festie is only a mere 7 weekends away!!!

"You're 'avin a larff aren't ya?"

Ermmmm ...................

NOPE!

Hi everyone,

Erika here again with some more announcements. There will be a few coming up this week so hang tight.

For those of you interested ..........

I'm happy to announce the following contributors to Ostara Festival this year. These ladies will be setting up the healing space at Ostara. You may be familiar with most of them as they are regular contributors to healing spaces at most festivals including Rainbow and they are ..............

Lisa Briggs
Cat Bellm
Angela La Leggia
Caro Noiret

They will be setting up the healing space and will be providing massages and sound healing session and more for those in need of relaxation time after a busy day's dancing/partying etc.

Thank you in advance ladies for your contribution to this year's event.

Additional to those above we'll have 1, possibly 2 Kinesiologists on site and a young woman who will be conducting Theta Healing throughout the weekend.

Trust me, there is nothing better than getting a massage after a busy day's running around during ANY festival. I recommend it highly!!!

Massages/healings etc by donation.

Thanks everyone. Stay tuned for the next announcement.

Re: OSTARA FESTIVAL 2008

Post by SoulWhiteMan »

Hi everyone,

Thought we would begin communicating the “do’s and dont’s” for Ostara Festival this year and around the site of Opoeia now called Sokil. We'll be reminding you all of these closer to the event just as a refresher.

Please take note and communicate this to all of your friends who are attending as some of these points require consideration and preparation before leaving on your travels.

First and foremost …….

• Ostara Festival is a camping only event - please pack your tents and camping gear ….. of course!

• PLEASE CARPOOLwhere possible not only to reduce carbon emissions but to also reduce the number of cars that enter onto the site - for the courageous and adventurous please consider riding your bike or planning a camel caravan.

PLEASE NOTE: We have been warned that any cars parked around the perimeter of the Opoeia/Sokil site, will be towed away. Unless of course you’re happy to assist the Surf Coast Shire as they are keen as mustard to increase budgets this year so if you feel like contributing please feel free to park along Breakfast Creek Road.

• Drive carefully and sensibly especially around the neighbouring towns as you’re heading towards and leaving Opoeia/Sokil. Most residential complaints in the past have been due to high speed driving along country roads. We have been asked that we communicate this to all attendees. There are children, families and elderly citizens in near-by towns. Please be mindful of the neighbouring residents and wildlife in the area. Most important of all, it’s for your own safety.

The road into the site is extremely treacherous especially in wet weather. Local traffic police will be patrolling the roads and have been known to make speeding festival goers pick up litter at Shannon Noll / Rogue Trader concerts.

• Pack LOTS of warm clothing and wet weather gear should it rain. It gets incredibly cold up in the Otways. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Night time activity will take place indoors and heating will be provided, as well as a number of fires around the main site including small fires in tee pees but it still gets rather chilly!!! If you do find yourself feeling cold we recommend you give someone a hug - group hugs are especially effective.

• We request that everyone pack plates, cups and cutlery in order to help reduce waste over the course of the weekend. Our caterers will be supplying a very limited amount of disposable plates/cups/cuttlery.

• You are required to take your rubbish home with you. We will provide plastic bags for your non-recyclable/recyclable matter upon entry but please pack additional just in case. Punishment for leaving piles of rubbish at your campsite will be cleaning the main dance floor of cigarette butts with a pair of tweezers!

• If you SMOKE – PLEASE we ask that you DO NOT butt your cigarettes on the ground. Either carry a portable butt bin or stick it in your pocket. The world is not your ashtray. FYI: Filters on cigarettes take approximately 5 years to bio-degrade if not more and a single cigarette butt contaminates over 40 litres of water to the point where small creatures start to die.

Don’t be a Tosser-Butt it and Bin it (or tuck it in your socks what ever works for you).

• Ostara is not a licensed event so please bring your own alcohol. If you drink alcohol - drink responsibly and feel free to share with any frazzled looking event organiser. We’ll be the ones wearing Bob the Builder stack hats for easy identification.

• Water availability on site can be an issue, its all tank water and the creek is undrinkable, so we recommend you bring a supply of your own drinking water.

• Ostara is a NO GLASS event for safety reasons.

• No dogs permitted on site.

• No renegade sound systems permissable on site otherwise these will be confiscated and returned at the end of the festival.

• Please be considerate towards your neighbouring campers. Keep stereo sound systems on LOW during during the night.

• “Ostara Festival” does not condone the use and abuse of illicit substances. Unsocial behaviour will NOT be tolerated and offenders will be asked to leave.

• Ostara is an all ages event. Have respect for self and others around you and please look after your friends and each other and be aware when small children are around.

• BYO drums, musical instruments of your choosing. We encourage everyone to share their musical talents whether that be contributing towards a drumming circle or jamming sessions with others (but only if you are good).

• Fire twirling permitted but only in designated areas and as per above - only if you are good. BYO fuel.

• We encourage you all to have an awesome time over the Ostara weekend:-

- participate in the workshops and talks we provide if you can or conduct one of your own. Ostara offers an open forum for people to share their knowledge and skills with others.

- bring your positive energy with you and be part of a gathering of like minded individuals who have a passion for music of all kinds.

- Pet pigs most welcome- there will be a pig throat singing workshop on Sunday morning!

And most important of all, the owners of the site will be checking in throughout the course of the weekend so please be mindful of your surroundings and actions as any infringements will jeopardise further use of this site.

Phewy – I think that’s all for now!!! See you all in a few weeks!!!

Hi everyone,

In true community spirit - as RRR Radio are kind enough to offer us a radio spot to discuss our event and our performers (Monday 1st September 12-1pm), we said we would return the favour by letting everyone know that they are currently running their radiothon to raise money via subscriptions to keep the radio alive and going which to date has been almost 30 years.

So ...... if you're not already a subscriber, get on the blower, show your support for community radio by dialing (03) 9388 1027 (http://www.rrr.org.au) and subscribe!!!

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Thought I would communicate our draft timetable for talks that will be taking place at Ostara this year. All of these will take place in the Recreational Hall at Opoeia (now called Sokil). These are subject to change:-

Saturday 20th September – Opoeia/Sokil Recreational Hall

12 – 1pm - Wilderness Society to talk about TWS and it’s current campaigns.

1 – 2pm - Music Production Workshop with Felix Greenlees (Terrafractyl)

2 – 3pm - Laurens De Groot crew member from Sea Shepherds to discuss his experience in Antartica
on board Steve Irwin during Operation Migaloo as well as the forthcoming campaign –
Operation Musashi confronting illegal whaling operations in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

3 – 4pm - Robbie Groom - active member and volunteer from Your Water Your Say to talk about YWYS and desalination
issues around the Bass Coast.

I do hope you all take the time to attend at least one of these talks to show your support in particular our environmental charity groups who are making the trip over to share with you details on their organisation and existing campaigns.

These talks and other workshops will be drawn up and posted around the café area during the course of the Festival including set times for all performing acts so keep your eyes peeled for these.

Thanks everyone!

Well RRR radio interview today went really well. There's only so much one can fit into 8mins of air time but we did it and covered all aspects of the festival itself from the charity we're raising money for, our artists, workshops taking place throughout the event and we got to play 2 tracks on radio - 1 from the Barons of Tang and the other from Lub Dub! Chuffed as!!!

As a result of the RRR radio interview we have now been booked to do a phone interview at 7.45am on 3CR (855 AM) for those of you who are up at sparrows fart, to discuss pretty much the same as today but with more focus on our charity - Your Water Your Say.

Thanks to all who listened in today!

Hi there Ulyssian,

Gates open from 5pm Friday 19th September and will remain open right through till the end of the event on Sunday 21st.

The road in and out of Opoeia/Sokil are solid enough to not get bogged if you drive with care.

Please please PLEASE I ask everyone to take extra caution when driving through Breakfast Creek road as it can get a little slippy.

RACV service at close call should you have any problems.

Hope this answers your question.

I will be sending out final communication to all attendees a week prior to the event and a reminder of do's and don'ts at the festival and festival site as well. Including in this communication, I will be releasing set times as well as workshop timetable additional to what I communicated above.

Thanks everyone. Not long now!!!

Hi everyone,

Thought we start by re-communicating the do's and don'ts at Ostara this year. Please take note, pass on to your friends as well if you could please.

Thanks.

DIRECTIONS TO THE SITE:

Melways Ref: 611 C10

The quickest and easiest route to Sokil from Melbourne and Geelong is inland via Moriac. However it is possible to reach Sokil via the Great Ocean Rd

From Melbourne - inland (1 1/2 hrs)

Take the fwy to GeelongDrive through Geelong following the Princes
Hwy in the direction of Colac 5km out of Geelong (Waurn Ponds) turn left at
Cape Otway Rd towards Moriac Follow this road for 18kms through Moriac and Modewarre.
After this 18kms, turn left at Wensleydale Station Rd, Wurdiboluc
Reservoir will be on your right. Follow for approx 7kms till the road turns to gravel.
Here you will come to an intersection. At this point, follow the road directly straight
into the Great Otway National Park (do not turn left here into Gum flats road)
Continue following gravel road, pass Alsop Track Turn left at the Fork, this is Breakfast Creek Rd
(DO NOT turn right here at Hammonds Track). Follow for another 3.5km into the valley.
Just over the small bridge, Sokil's gate is on the left.

From The Great Ocean Rd - Aireys Inlet (11.4 kms)

From Aireys Inlet turn inland into Bambra Rd
After about 1 1/2kms Bambra Rd actually takes a sharp left turn entering Angahook
State Park in the direction of Bambra (Do not continue straight here into Distillery
Creek Rd)Inside the Park the road turns to gravel (Distillery Creek Picnic Ground is
on the left). Continue for another 7kms to Pinch Gut Junction. At junction drive directly
straight into Breakfast Creek Rd (Do not turn left here following Bambra Rd to Bambra).
Follow for another 3.5km. Sokil's gate will be on the right

Yeah you can park at your site.

Come early though... there is limited room in the trees. Some overflow camping is available but it isn't as nice as the trees.

Yeah we will be working some kind of car pass-out system. People were doing the same thing last year.

Better bring your wetsuit though, the water is still really cold...

Just another note to all patrons out there considering using the on-site toilets this year...

Ostara Festival would like to express that it/we care for bottom plight and are going to stock-up on lots of toilet paper.

HOWEVER the Golgothan strongly suggests you bring some back-ups of your own JUST IN CASE THE SHIT HITS THE FAN!

Hi there everyone, Erika here again.

Just one last thing before I bury my head in it all until the next update.

We only have a total of 34 pre sale tickets left each @ $55.

22 at Ministry of Style (Brunswick St, Fitzroy)
6 Happy Herb Shop (St Kilda)
6 Happy Herb Shop (Collingwood)

Online ticket sales ends midnight tonight.

These are the last that we'll have available, all others will be available at the gate @ $65.

I thought that I would also make mention for those of you not in the know, if you are coming from Melbourne via the Westgate please be warned that there are speed cameras before you come to some of the overheads but they are also attached to the backs of them and some on the back of overhead signage. So please, don't speed along these roads unless you are flash with cash!!!

Directions and details about the site please refer to www.sokil.com.au.

Thanks everyone and see you all this weekend!!!

Erika & Ostara

PS: Please take note of the do's n dont's posted earlier. These are important and bring a torch with you / NON-disposable cups, plates and cuttlery / BYO water / LOTS AND LOTS OF WARM CLOTHING for the evening. See other essentials you will need to bring as posted earlier.

No there will not be ice for sale on the site.

The site is not very far (15 - 20 mins) from Moriac, and they will have ice for sale.

If you bring two eskys, fill one with booze and some ice... and fill the other one to the top with ice only, you will have no problems.

It's ON! See you there!

Hi guys,

Erika here again. Recovering and nursing a very sore throat and ........ trying to find my voice again. The rest of the Ostarians are in sick bay as well but let me tell ya, it was all worth the hard yards we all put into this event.

Firstly - big ups to Broken Beat Assault for coming along and sharing the space with us. From what I heard from the others, it was bangin'. Thank you thank you thank you!!! Sadly I was behind the scenes running around like one headless chicken so missed a lot of the acts performing at Ostara this year. Well done and thank you. Would like to have you and your crew be part of next year's event. I'll be touching base with you in the next week or so for chats etc.

Flippo - a big thanks to you too my friend for coming along and gracing us with your choons. Again, I didn't catch your set but the reports I'd been getting from punters, it was all thumbs up. Thank you!!! You're a legend and glad to have met you too. I too will be picking your brains leading up to next year!!!

SoulWhiteMan - awww, bugger that I didn't get a nano second to spend with you guys either. Bwaaaaaaaah. Thank you again for your performance during the festival but also big thanks for giving your thoughts and advice to consider for Ostara this year. Appreciated immensely. Hope you get to come back to Melbs soon lovie. You're too far away. Come back to the family.

Big thanks to all artists, contributors, volunteers and YOU the punters for making this year's festie such a success. We should know in the next fortnight as to how much money we all raised for our charity Your Water Your Say. We'll keep you posted.

Lastly - what did people think of the festie? Keen to know and if there is anything that we can do better for next year. Hope you all had fun and thanks once again all. Twas an AWESOME weekend indeed.

Best regards to all,

Erika + the Ostara Team
