hehe. i've stumbled at some heinous hour of the morn and inadvertently flung the next record into the crowd. no one was lucid enough to notice.

OK ... so I just used Serato for a whole gig for the first time.

Not mine, was playing with someone else.

And I discovered that you can use Serato with CDJs.

So, why would anyone use Serato with turntables if decent CDJs were available (and you knew how to use them)?

I mean other than looking cool, obviously.

well I think if you were doing lots of juggling and scratching and shit most would want to still use serratto via vinyl yeh. But yeh for mixing and stuff prolly CDJ would be better.

Oh yeah, meant to put other than scratch / juggling / hip hop DJs.

I suppose you wouldn't use it on shit CDJs either.

Do people take both control methods out and choose one based on what is available?

probably cause serato was designed for turntables... the only cdj's it works with are cdj400 as they have a usb connection... i used to have serato and it does not work that well with cdj1000's, use loose most of the functions...

yeh Phonetics not sure I understand..

what does a turntable (ie a needle playing a control tone) have that a CDJ doesn't (a laser playing a control tone)?

pretty sure Serato would work with any CDJ....

you obviously have absolutely no clue what you're on about. why bullshit like this unless you're certain its factual. maybe you should learn how to set it up properly by reading the manual that comes with the Serato equipment.. its pretty much plug and play from my experience anyway.

First of all, CDJ400s need a firmware update before they will work with Serato Scratch Live. Secondly, you dont need USB on your CDJs to use Serato or FS in ANY circumstance. The USB input/output on these CDJs is for external HDDs and for use as a midi controller.

CDJ1000s works perfectly, right down to 0.02% pitch resolution with Serato.

CDJ800s also work perfectly.

Watch the posted video on YouTube.

Looping functions all work as they should, not as well as with audio CDs, but work nonetheless. the only function I've found not working is the Master Tempo, MMC (displayed on computer) and Wave display (also displayed on computer).

Why do you need the pitch reading on the CDJ?

Turntables certainly don't have that?

Yeah see Traktor looks better to me than Serato.

If Traktor was smart they would add support for interfacing a with Serato box, as Serato seems to have higher club penetration.

I don't think that would be smart at all mate.

They'd lose more money than they would gain IMO, due to lack of $$$ on the interface.

And TBH (again), the Traktor interface is probably the biggest selling point. Better quality converters in it than its Serato counterpart.

All in all, Serato has a better name (I.e. more "penetration") coz it's been around longer.... that's all.... and these things change... from what I hear Traktor has been eating away at Serato's rather large slice of pie for a while now.

Can you buy just the software?

If they could convince all Serato users to start using Traktor on their Serato box it would be a massive. Serato would die, who is going to buy a new Searto box to use with Traktor when you can get the real thing for the same money!

Sure some people would pirate Traktor software to use with Serato, but in doing so Traktor is still gaining market share.

There are other versions of Traktor you can buy, as just the software. But they're limited.

They'll never develop Traktor software to work with a Serato box. Well, IMO. The box acts as the dongle for the software, and there'd be too many problems with stability issues, driver development etc between the two companies for it to occur.

Traktor's main benefits come from buying it as a all-in-one package. Stability, quality and value for money.

Yeah I don't think they ever (ever!) will either, I'm just saying I think it would be a smart move for them to do it.

There is no reason they couldn't though. I'm sure the Serato box could be used as a dongle (Serato does it), some features could even be limited if a Serato box was chosen. And I can't see what stability issues there would be bar Serato breaking it in a firmware upgrade. This could be fixed by requiring a certain version for compatibility.

I'm sure Serato would get all huffy and stomp around though. That might be an issue.
