Next lot of artist/performers.... announced!!!

As a follow up to the stunning first round of acts we covered last month, we are proud to release our second round of announcements for 2010.

Image
South Korean born and raised in Western Australia, SARITAHis a hard-working independent artist who has built a solid fan base across the country.

Since the release of her debut album ‘Gratitude’ in May 2004, and her ‘These Days/You’re The One’ EP in September 2005, SARITAH has toured consistently both within Australia and overseas, performing over 400 live shows including: Big Day Out, the West Coast Blues n Roots Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Reggaetown, Island Time and Peats Ridge amongst many others.

Image
Chocolate Strings have been described as one of Brisbane’s finest purveyors of grooved out dub. Their soulful tracks and bangin' party tunes have captured the attention of people across the nation. A range of diverse backgrounds and influences give them a smorgasbord of sounds, a veritable buffet of fresh beats, bass and acoustic grooves to please the most discerning appetite. From the rich deep Polynesian vocal harmonies of female vocalists Ofa Fanaika, Nia Falekakala and Nikkie McWalters to the smokin' sax of Josh Appleby, these cats serve up a set where the only thing you can be sure of is leaving with a smile on your dial and sore legs from dancing.

Image
Charles Babyhas been honing his skills in the Melbourne music scene for the past couple of years developing his reputation as one of the country’s up and coming quality songwriters. His debut EP was launched to a sold out crowd in Melbourne and received a strong critical reception for “this odd, delicate and beautiful album”. He supported some of the country’s leading acts (Josh Pyke, Tim Rogers, Architecture In Helsinki) and became a favourite in Australia’s notorious festival circuit.

Image
Eli Baltsanstarted his journey back with Domo Records. and was one of the first promoters and labels to bring the progressive sound to Israel. In 2006 he started a weekly night at “Maxim” club featuring some of the worlds best DJs like; D-Nox, Criss Source , Beckers, Kasey Taylor, Anti, Oliver Moldan, Pena and Tim Healey. In the same year he also had his first release with Iboga Records. Juggling his other committments, such as being one half of Weekend Heroes, Eli can still be found DJ’ing around the globe.

Image
Straight out of Brunswick’s bohemia come Rapskallion dressed in their decrepit finery, singing songs of the open road, blue stone alleyways, fruit falling from the trees and the seven seas, Rapskallion, reminiscent of 20's Paris Bohemia transported to a Romanian tavern and then set adrift on the high seas. The Skallions defy explanation with a glint in their eye and a dagger in their teeth. Add a pinch of hip hop, vaudevillian sensibilities, a curly moustache and a startling array of hats, Rapskallion will inspire with their mix of quirky lyrics and rustic, rowdy and romantic accordion driven dance tunes!

Image
It was the winter of 2007 and what had started as a “joke” between a handful of down and out Melbourne musos, quickly spiralled of out control into the musical juggernaut known as, The Barons of Tang! With a taste for travel and chaos, the Barons of Tang embarked on 2 years of merciless touring, leaving a trail of battered and bruised dance floors in their wake. Lashing Tango, Rockabilly, Metal and Gypsy feels together with hard hitting guitar riffs, double kick blast beats and massive horn arrangements, The catchy tunes and punk ethos all tie together to mean one thing, dancing is inevitable!

Image
In today's age of electronic music, the rise to stardom is often as fast as the fall into obscurity. Solidarity is hard to come by, but Melbourne native Phil K has proven that when it comes to DJing, experience, vision, and just plain persistence pay off.

His twenty plus years as a world class DJ have won him one of the largest cult followings in the EDM community. Phil has been labeled as one of, if not the most technically-skilled DJs in the world. With a fan base ranging from peers like Sasha, Seaman, Meat Katie and James Zabiela, touting Phil as his "favorite DJ", to clubbers from Sri Lanka to Seattle, it’s hard to argue; Phil K has truly left his mark.

Image
Jamie's distinctive "trademark sound" his own take on techno and house, is one that most people find hard to pigeonhole. And he wouldn't want it any other way.

With 15 years in the business, Jamie still maintains an uncompromising approach to production and his music career in general, a career in which he has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success.

Image
Dub the Magic Dragonare a 4 piece band based in Melbourne, Australia. They combine Eastern Traditional music with African/Latin rhythms and Western sensibilities to create an orgasmic listening experience. Often incorporating live circus and acrobatic acts, a typical show consisted of Sitar, Guitar, Drums, Bass, Percussion, Vocals, Horn section, Accordion, MC’s and Belly Dancers and has been described as “The best rave music you’ll ever hear except played on real instruments and totally live!”

Image
Tropical space cowboys Cumbia Cosmonautsare Australia's first cumbia sound system, and already at the forefront of the growing global phenomenon of Nueva Cumbia. This Colombian rhythm is blasted into the future and beyond by Melbourne-based visionary producers Moses ‘saca la mois DJ!!’ Iten and Thomas ‘Soup’ Campbell, who assemble a stellar cast of guest musicians to make each live performance a unique visual and sonic adventure featuring lasers, casio keyboard, accordion, melodica, brass and plenty percussion.

Image
Dov is one of San Francisco’s continual boundary pushers in electronic music having produced music, party nights and distributing music from the vibrant Bay Area music scene since 1996. Founding his own imprint, Muti Music in 2002 and since then making a distinctive mark on the west coast sound.

Dov has headlined and featured alongside many luminaries of dance culture and has proven to be able to adapt his sounds to any environment. The sounds to be expected from Dov are always elevated and emotional, whether downtempo or peak time uptempo in super-clubs, his diversity and experience have prepared him for the job.

Image
Spoonbill began, as is often the case with birds of play, in the bush. Back then, though, he hadn’t grown his plumage. Back then he was simply known as Jim Moynihan and he had no feathers to speak of. What he did have, however, was a natural ear for rhythm, sound and vibe, playing kit to audiences in pubs some time before the law recognised him as a legal punter.

Moynihan is a restless sonic author constantly defying genres and experimenting with the potential of the vast sonic canvas. He has carved a unique niche within contemporary electronic music, building a worldwide reputation for his idiosyncratic sound design and richly textured high production values.

PLUS | Gavin Keitel | Dave Pham | Mike Callander | Simon Slieker
Thankyou City– (Formerly Continuum) | Gavin Martin | Jonny Mac
Tim Harvey | Punks On Junk | Woodsman | J-Dub

well.... despite the constant rain all friday night and saturday.. and saturday night creating a mud fest... the music was absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!11

vibes were amazing right through til tonight.
a few mud baths were had!!!!!!

farmers did a superb job joining forces and towing everyone that couldn't get through the mud out..
feel for the organisers with such shitty weather but everyone really got into the spirit! (WTF RAIN :/)

Set up in time for Tijuana Cartel ... who also played Saturday... they were possibly the highlight of the festival!!

Managed to have a massive dubstep/dnb/dub stomp sesh most of friday night (i think)... EDIT.. nope.. that was saturday.... it all gets fuzzy

Bass Bin Laden. DOV and mimosa were also pretty special, then flicked over to a real energetic Vida Sunshyne and MC Jornick working their magic with Mista Savona!

Spoonbill was not as good as I have seen.. Ill Gates was fucking brilliant as were Blue King Brown, Fyah Walk, Ganga Giri - how can a didge sound soooo good?!
And THAT 1 GUY..... if you have not seen the instrument he plays.. look it up... amazing sounds, such a performer and just interesting to watch!!! (google).

Was not impressed with the sound on main stage for Fat Freddy's so called it a night.. oh and it was pissing down and a bit too cold.

BiG Turn out.
Would be more than happy for this type of festival to continue!!!

Too scared to drop camera in mud but here is a couple of the before and after:

that party proved to me the absolute determination everyone had to have a good time, regardless of the weather...

torrential rain all day n night saturday, from muddy to a dancefloor LAKE, nowhere to sit, nowhere to escape but in the car.

BUT, mega fun anyhow. market stage on saturday was rockin, ill gates, spoony and mimosa brought some WICKED dubstep...

FFD in the pouring rain, a sea of umbrellas, amazing!

bigups Shine On fest, overcame all odds to make the first one still memorable and mostly without major hitches.
