ECHOES returns for its seventh installment at Loop celebrating the influence of Dub in electronic music.
Dub, developed originally in the late sixties focusing on the rhythmic parts of a Reggae recording, grew to be a genre on its own right that has literally shaken the world ever since. It was a powerful experiment that pushed the use of the mixing desk as an instrument and gave greater control to the sound engineer as a producer. It set the blueprint for much of the dance music that has followed.
ECHOES V7.0 will take you on a bass heavy journey from Kingston to Berlin via Detroit and London. For this edition, residents Matic and Mark Baumann will be joined by AC23 and James Steer, two experienced local movers and shakers doing their debut at Echoes. VJ Netzair is back at the controls providing visual stimulation.
AC23
Vinyl lover and an ambassador for all things bass, this very skilled dj is one of the founding members of 'Wobble', Melbourne's longest running monthly Bass Party, where he developed his fast mixing DJ style.
Influenced by Jamaican sound system culture, AC23 has a refreshingly honest and uncompromising approach towards sound quality as well, using vinyl and dubplates to transmit the full range of frequencies and warmth of the music.
With an impressive vinyl collection spanning from Jungle Drum & Bass, Garage through to newer bass incarnations of UK Funky and Dubstep, he will bring his secret weapons and skills to Echoes.
James Steer
James has been deejaying for the last 10 years and been involved in promoting the Deep Chord parties which brought, amongst others, electronic dub legend Monolake, Andy Vaz and Deadbeat.
Playing mainly deep dub minimal tech and micro house, James has had guest spots on Street FM and Kiss FM over the years and will bring his Dub Techno weapons to Echoes.
