today's zazz isn't bad

MGE Nova AVR 600vA UPS System
$99.80 + $15 delivery
Image

We sell UPS's to resellers and the price I'd quote them for a 600VA UPS starts at over $160. This one's a bargain. Keeps your system running for up to 15 minutes after a power outage, gives you time to save your files and shut down the system.

Never heard of the brand before but it comes with a 12 month warranty.

what do people think of today's zazz?

http://www.zazz.com.au/

i bought one a couple of months back from the chemist and it gave such wildly inaccurate readings that i returned it.

do you guys reckon you can get an accurate one for this price or better to get the real thing for the couple hundred they cost?

not worth the risk. I'd rather spend a few hundred on a reputable brand than spend a few nights in the slammer with a criminal record.

don't they usually say "novelty only" on these types??

I spent a couple of hunj on one of these and it was ridiculously inaccurate

I'd test myself, have another drink and then test again and I had a lower reading

Just get caught drink driving enough and u get a permanent one installed to your ignition :teef:

I brought a 30 bucker off ebay ages ago, the boys have fun blowing into it after 10 beers to see who can get the highest reading...i blew .19 one night after only 3 homebrews  you get what you pay for these days i belive.

melle has a great one that she got in the states (i think), believe it was pretty pricey though. spot on accuracy...

the one i got from the chemist gave me a .05 reading when i'd been sitting at home all evening and hadn't had a drink for 48 hours and gave joe and all clear when he'd been up at the pub with mates for hours and was PISSED. hmmmm.

shit i didn't notice it doesn't have a remote!

thanks for pointing that out...

yeah - 400gb would get used up pretty quick. i'd only want it if i could store ALL my music and a heap of movies. got at least 200gb of music and even more of movies already, and you'd want it to last for years to be worth it...

Do you have wireless at home? You can get media centers that can connect to your pc/laptop through wireless or network cable even.
Then you'll have as much storage as you need.
My mate has been looking at getting one.

Also to put things in perspective.
Your average movie is 800mb (unless you are ripping dvd's without compression) so 400gb would fit 500 movies.

I have one of these and it's fantastic.

The main thing you have to take into consideration before buying any media
Centre is "will it be future proof?"

New codecs and formats are coming out all the time and it's important to
find out if the product manufacturer updates and released firmware for
your player. I spend a fair bit of time researching and Media Gate has a
good user community and the product developers really do heed the advice
and requests of their users and update their firmware more often than
most manufacturers.

IMO go for the Media Gate MG-350 HD 8) I love it and it plays almost all
the formats I want.

I don't even have a Hard disk in mine, I just stream shit off all my network
shares. It's seriously seamless, I had a mate bring his laptop over and
it updated the media server as soon as he connected to my wireless.

Wham, Bamm, Van Damme!

Am I missing something? In the third picture it shows a remote with the pack :?: :?

hmmmmm that looks good.

i would definitely want a big Hard Disc in my as I would use that to replace my external HD which is full up music at the moment...

free it up to use it for it's original purpose of backups etc.

Not too bad. It's very green :? But you can make skins for it if you want to.

I don't seem to have any troubles with it. The remote response is kinda
clunky though, as if it has a small delay. But it's defiantly usable and it's a
big improvement on using my PC with HDMI out.

i'd point out that having a 400GB 'drive' in there is probably going to mean that you want to have that backed up elsewhere. jbod arrays are nasty when they die.

why not just get a gateway interface and leave the actual files somewhere else, that way you need not worry about transfering files and/or losing them, or upgrading the capacity.
