This system will not improve a thing. All it does is reduce ticketing costs for the operators to increase their profits.

serious joke of a system.
put $15 on my card because i didn't have enough for my usual 10 x 2hr fella, and it STILL hasn't registered to my account even though the money has been debitted from my bank account on wednesday. they fail to tell you on the website that online top-ups may take 3 to 5 days to process! srsly. what the absolute fuck?! so now i'm forced to travel without a ticket despite best intentions because i can't afford another one.

total BS. AVOID FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.

Second week using myki. No problems. Like not having to find my ticket, just swipe my whole wallet and it works. No more "which pocket" or loosing tickets.

also like not having to worry about deciding to buy weekly, day or 2 hour if I'm not sure illhave to drive or end up out after work.

Turns out it doesn't.

You need to top up with Myki Money (which is ride by ride) and/or a Myki Pass (which is a number of days).

If you have a Myki Pass and Myki Money it will automatically start the Myki Pass when you ride in the zone it's for. No choosing or best usage calculations. The only reason you would have both is if you ride out of your Pass zone (in which case it uses Money for that component) or for if you forget to get another one when it runs out.

shat the shizle are you talking about.

I got online and got a card. I put money on it. I swipe it when i get on the train and swipe it when i get off. I thought it then just worked out if I had used it each day over a week that i should be charged x amount or whatever.

How do i get the best value for money. The myki website it just as confusing as you are James. What is the difference between the card in my wallet - myki money and a myki pass. How do i make my card know im travelling all week.

God damn it, i was ready to be positive about this thing.

In Zone 1 Myki Money is $2.94 per trip if you don't forget to tag off.

In Zone 1 a Myki Pass with 7 days is 4.20 a day

In Zone 1 a Myki Pass with 28-324 days is $3.60 a day

If you buy a Myki Pass with 365 days you only pay for 325, so it's 3.20 a day.

Bear in mind once the days start you can't stop them, and they start the first time you use it in the correct zone.

so that is total divided by 7 to get $4.20 so if i use it 5 days to compare to daily it would be total divided by 5.

same as before, but wak.

why o why can't it calculate the distance you have traveled and charge you fairly and accordingly?... swipe on and swipe off would lead me to believe that this is the case. coz I currently hate that you have to pay $3.70 to go 4 blocks or 4kms same price.... It's unfair, and no where else charges like this.. most other places in the world charge depending on how far you are going, which is the only fair way.

Try pitching that change to all the people that commute daily from Pakenham, Frankston and the like. Would never happen here now that they're developed the ridiculous system they have. I'm with you 100% Dan, but the change would just lose votes for any politician game enough to even suggest it.

i have no idea how to use it.
i travel on trains to get to work and trams within the city 4 days a week, often a few times for work missions etc,
but for three days a week i may not catch any.
agree with Dan, it should be touch on, touch off and a regulated payment even like the two hour thing to cover the arses of outer burb ppl!

but its NOT that simple.

and i now giggle at the poor ppl trying to still hand out brochures.

i am tempted to tell them they would be better off handing out teleportation brochures.

I`m sure not looking forward to coming home from Japan

Have caught countless trains since being here....Tokyo Metro, Shinkansen, Kyushu Rail Co.........not a SINGLE cancellation or late train

And the real beauty is, if confused, you can always buy the CHEAPEST fare. If it`s the wrong one, you simply adjust it at the other end. No hassle. Ever

Ok the whole tram thing is starting to confuse me.

I've seen it switched on in some trams and some people actually touching on and off.

I just don't get why I should bother. I just finished having a look at both the myki and the metlink websites, did a bit of maths and tehres not gonna be any savings going on from the looks of it for me. At least from what I read there wont.

I currently buy a weekly zone 1&2 for $49.60 (according to the metlink website that's how much it is I had no idea all I knew was it was around the $50 cause I always fed a $50 in.)

The weekly price is gonna still stay the same for that.

What I'm wondering is, say on weekends I might only travel in a zone 2 on a Saturday, if I buy one of those passes either a weekly or a 28 day and I only travel in zone 2 will it realise this an adjust my fares accordingly or is it going to work exactly the same way my metcard does and once I've paid for the zone 1 & 2 weekly thats it?

Am I better off in this instance only going with myki money to get the savings there? however by the same token sometimes on weekends I do end up travling through both zones on both days which would then end up working out MORE expensive then buying the weekly...

ARGH now I'm completely confused.
They reckoned it was gonna calculate the best fair HA doesn't look like it. it's looking more and more like it's still gonna be the same as it always was, me paying the same price for going into the city as it would for me getting off at bloody darebin (which was what I thought myki was gonna be doing adjusting things like that accordingly) I dunno...
The fridge is angry, the cheese told me so.

Watch out for the penguins, they are comming
