I got a crumpler.... mega awesome... they don't scream "steal me I'm full of camera" either.

mine is a 6 million dollar home... fits two cameras (with lenses on), two extra lenses and a flash, plus a ton of film etc.

I could suggest the 4 million dollar home for your needs jbs.

I've got one of the crumplers too. Ace for travelling with, fits camera plus a bunch of other stuff and has lots of handy little stash pockets for keys, tickets, phone etc. Doesn't look half bad either. Plus as a chick I get to take it on as my "handbag" in addition to another peice of carry on luggage.
I'm in a loop, I am the loop...

Most likely cheaper on ebay I would think. Duty free tends to stock a very limited range of photographic equipment anyway

What do people use for storing photos online while travelling?

I want to be able to store the orginal photos (possible RAWs in the future) online and have the ability to make location albums then link photos from those albums to other albums for viewing by friends.

Or failing that whats a good reliable online data backup site I can dump images on?

hi mr travel person!

apparently there is a memory card on the market that has a wifi device in it that whenever you are near an available wifi it automatically links and uploads your files to your account on a website. pretty slick! not sure what its called but a mate does, will ask.

apparently same product came in handy for one person, who had their camera stolen, and then all these photos of the thief and friends started popping up on her website. they contained enough personal info of the theif to track em down and bust em.

Don't get either! The G9 replacement is out very soon so is the new Lumix LX3. LX3 would be my pick.

It's got a totally rad looking lens which will own for indoor shots!

The 100/2 is Nice, but it is 100mm, and on a 350d, thats gonna be tight. If its your first fixed focal length (prime) lens, Why not grab a nifty fifty ( 50/1.8 ) for about $150 local and see how you feel?

Have you researched the 100/2 in person? I've got one in stock at work here, more than welcome to come try it and some others.

thanks for the advice lachie!

nah i haven't tried it, just wanting to upgrade the lens from the standard one i got. i would love to get a macro and wide-angle one too, but what i really need now is one that is better than the standard that comes with the 350D, in terms of just standard shooting people, objects and scapes

will look into the 50/1.8

thanks again, tops work! :D 8)

In fact most of my travel shots seem to be on it (obviously unless I need zoom).

50mm f/1.8 is the dream lens. Ask anybody who shoots with a Canon. I'm on my 3rd as they do break easily (hence the $150 price tag), but they are fast, have loads of contrast and take wonderfully sharp images.

Check my stream for shots with my 50mm

ahhh is that the lens you always break Karlos. Was hoping you would come give your opinion.

what do you guys think of the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Lens?

its pretty much the same as the 100, but the price tag is less, plus this lens seems more durable than the 50. i don't want to be forking out dough if the 50 breaks easily, i mean i look after my lenses, mostly because i don't want anything to break cos i can't afford to replace so easily

Mine broke because I dropped them! I'm a clumsy fool.

The 85mm is a great lens, but may still be a little too far in the focal length and I'd say more than you need to spend if you're thinking of a new prime. Especially if you're a hobbyist.

50mm is basically the same view you get with your eyes, so it's good for quick composures as what you see is what you get. It is a must!

hmmm yeah for sure, however it will be a present (sort of, i will prob put in for it too), so i am okay with going for something around $300 to $400.

and just cos i am a hobbyist doesn't mean i can't get on to that sweet sweet lens action :P

50mm 1.8 is awesome.... mine broke too... I now have another...

you can get them for $100 on ebay. $300-$400 means you could break 4 before it became more expensive. 85mm would be good for portraits but not really for general shooting.

maybe you should look at getting the Canon 50mm 1.4 USM.... Ollie has that lens, metal mount, much tougher, and a stop brighter. Better focusing motor too.

50mm f/1.8 is pretty weak at AF in low light when on f/1.8, and would probably be a shit of a lot better on a full-frame body than cropped. that being said, i don't regret it in the least.
