hi tattoo enthuisiasts.

Need some advice, im planning on getting my family crest tattooed on me somewhere, i was thinking on my upper arm/shoulder but just wanted to know if there is any symbology associated on where you get things tattooed (like if you get your ear pierced in your right ear you are gay etc)
I know that the right side is suppossed to be male and left female and since its my family crest im thinking right arm, but it could also look alright on my right chest i guess.
anyway here it is:

Image

also how much would something like this cost? ~$300 yeah?
and where would be the best place to get it done without going on some ridiculous waiting list.

price will depend on size.
Do not need to worry to much about waiting list as it is not specialist, any good artist will be able to do that. It is a good looking Crest by the way...

Post by aroes »

how big do you want it? if it's on your upper arm, say from the top of your shoulder to the bit where your t shirt sleeve stops, i'd say it'd cost between $300 and $600

as far as waiting lists go..........if you want somebody good, you will most probably have to wait at least a couple of months, maybe even a year. good tattoo artists are generally booked up for a reason

the best advice i can give you is LOOK AT THE ARTIST'S FOLIO. if there is shonky work in their folio, then imagine how bad the stuff is they DIDN'T take photos of

best of luck.............family crest is an awesome idea for a tattoo, wear it with pride

hallo almax...

id reccommend checking out the folios too, and asking if anyone is extra good with crests.
eternal instinct are my guys and everyone i send there is very happy with them.

i think it would look good on shoulder, smaller, or bigger on chest.
if you really want it shaded nicely it will take a while to execute, so could be even more than $600

and word to waiting months or a year for the right artist, but its there for life and the anticipation is part of the process!

also keep in mind that the gold and colours will get lots of sun as you are mr wakeboarder etc, so they colours will fade over time if they are on your shoulder especially (my recent arm cover up was only due to ten years of sunlight fading the colours to almost nil)

good luck!

You might want to get it a little bigger as there are intricate details in that crest that would be hard to tattoo + shading if it was small.

For anything family related I reckon chest but upper arm would be ok, just as long as you kept it covered with a tshirt most of the time so as GK mentioned it doesn't fade too quick.

The price depends on size, colours and shading. $300+

Good luck!

i think the name banners are okay, just not in gold...shaded instead...
it is a stronger image without the banners, but then its not a whole crest!
i say go the maxwell at the top but in greys...

here's my xmas present to me.....
it's the start of a piece.. i was just too scared of the pain to follow through with the rest that will go up around my belly button so it kinda looks a little alone....
and noooooooo, i don't plan on having kids so it shouldn't look like an alien in ten years time.... and if do, well then i am fucked!

i was rather suprised at how pain free the spot is and actually giggle at some points, then he started laying into one spot and i don't think my nerves liked it too much... but on a pain scale of 1/10, i would say 1.5!

So I wanna get my next piece started pretty soon. like asap soon.
Hard part is that I don't know ANYTHING about the tattooist in Melbourne.
It's gonna be 4 flowers, 4 different flowers, but I don't want any of that "oh look a pretty flower" crap I actually want it done as though they actually LOOK like real flowers, I have the flowers all picked out photo wise, but can anyone reccommend a good tattooist who'll actually be able to get it looking like i want it to?

We all recommend the same dudes every time really.
for every tattoo!!

Eternal Instinct on St Georges Rd is my recent favorite. Craig Deuce or Mace.
Craig just did some art deco flowers on my arm that are all shaded, no solid lines and i get comments on it all the time (there's pics a couple pages back)

wanna post some pics of ya flowers for us to see?

Theres one more but I haven't got the pic on the computer at the moment
It'll be done on my side with the lilly as the center piece, the rose and the orchid underneath it but slightly to the side as well if that makes sense and then the 4th flower will be above it.
The orchid will be more block colour than that, pretty much the colour of the specles but instead of speckles a block of that colour moving towards more redish hues I have a pic of the colour I want on my phone, and I'm too lazy to get them onto thec omputer.

PS, kitty you working tomorrow? I might come say hi :D

they are gonna look awesome, bigger the better imo! they will withstand the test of time better the bigger they are!

either go see one of the guys mentioned here or go into 2 or 3 of the places we always reccommend
tattoo magic, eternal instinct, chapel tattoo, dynamic tattoo (any others guys?)
and flick through the books till you find an artist who's work resonates with you. When you see it, speak to them, youll know.

As in, photo-realistic? Best rep I've heard of late for portraits/fine detail is Marshall at Third Eye Tattoo. Sarah Melder at Dynamic Tattoo also has a very good reputation for detailed work. Check 'em out :)

After a month or so of emails back and forth, it looks like when I'm in Tokyo later this month I'll be getting tattooed by this guy http://www.ryugendo.jp/

Just waiting for an appointment time now, so fucking excited. He outlines with a machine, but shades and colours using the traditional Japanese hand poking method (tebori)
