Here the frame I've always wanted - the Intense M1 SL

Image

Best. Downhill. Bike. Ever. Design has barely changed since the frame was released many years ago and for good reason: they got it riht the first time.

Every pro level rider who isn't sponsored always rides these buggars (or maybe a Foes back in the day) cos they are the best. Some sponsored riders even used to ride them with their sponsors stickers on them (for example Tomac a few years back when he was riding for Giant and the Giant DH bikes were crap, although Rockwell won a World Championship on them so they cant be all bad)

And heres what one looks like built up

Image

One day I will have one.........................one day.....................

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2002-Intense-M1- ... dZViewItem

Theres one going for about 3 grand at the moment (built up) on ebay, but its a 2002 model and I'm guessing its had a fair work out (read: completley thrashed) although having said that I fail to imagine how I would ever be able to break one, regardless of how old the frame was.

They used to go for about 6-7 k for a frame back in the day

yeah, but could never justify the cost, mainly because I
- dont race anymore
- when I did race I didn't spend much time on my bike but instead spent most of it sliding along on my head after coming off my bike

did the round the bay in the day yesterday and it was awesome, never seen so many bikes and people out riding and it was ace to have bikes take over a whole lane.

riding in packs and drafting off people was cool too, and i am so grateful to my mate Ben for helping me put tiny slick tyres on my mountain bike so we could hoon along at 30km/h for most of the ride, did the 100kms in 4 hours, think i'll go for the 210 next time.

I did the 210 yesterday. Feeling pretty good today.
It was my first ATB. I was kinda bored to be honest. Not a particularly interesting route, also a bit too flat. Good vibes though. Well executed (except the jersey/number collection).

What's the best presta valve air pump on the market that possibly has a PSI gauge that I can buy ASAP?

My tyre has gone flat and I can't take it anywhere atm, no car.

If ya don't know, you can buy a presta --> schrader(car valve) converter. They cost about $2, are tiny and just and screw on the top of the valve. Then you can pump your tires at any servo, just don't look at the pressure guage cause they don't work with the converter on...

Sweet I'll look into it when I drop into my shop. The converter thing sounds interesting, but don't really want to blow out my tyre at a servo. Too risky for my slicks :)

Depending on your tyres, it's quite likely that the compressed air at the servo won't go high enough. Cars run at like 30-50PSI, and the tyres on my road bike, for example, run at 115PSI.

What sort of bike did you end up getting Rob?

Nah no way that would happen. I always did my bike tyres at the servo. easy as.

actually, funny story about exploding tyres...
We were at castlemaine for a weekend of riding and one of my housemates was putting some new tubeless tyres on his wheels. You can get this creamy looking goop stuff that automatically seals up any punctures. You just pour half a bottle into the bottom of the tyre before you inflate it. Anyway, he was pumping away and I happened to look over at him just in time to hear this deep BOOM and watch this spooge-like goop spray all over himself and my car. That's what happens when you don't seat the beading of the tyre properly!

one of my housemates' friends used to leave his fixedwheel unlocked, leaning against the wall of the pub. he'd come out of the pub to find the bike 20metres down the road with a trail of blood leading away from it. fucking bike thieves. A mate had his $5k mtb that he'd only just bought stolen when the house got robbed. gutted.

I got a Giant Talon 07' ... pretty much left everything standard but just got the Schwalbe semi slick tires and the obligatory bar ends :)

I was recommended to keep them at 65PSI on a weekly basis. They're fairly thin.

What a sweet ride though! I gotta get some pictures and post it. I love it :)

I nearly got knocked off my bike this morning near
Cemetary Rd turnoff Princes Park. Stupid BITCH just peels off left as I was riding down Royal Parade

She's got a dent in the left side of her car from my bike but the cream of it was I reckon she soiled her pants when I belted the side of her car with my hand and shouted profanities at her

nice one. I bought some geax slicks that run at 100psi. great rolling efficacy.

went riding up a lysterfield park on saturday. got some nice grazes to show for it.
rear ended a car on my road bike on sunday after some dickhead opened his door in front of me (no damage to me, my bike or the guys car)
wasn't a good weekend for riding it seems. it was fun none the less.

gnat: hope you're ok. royal parade can be terrible for cyclists despite the bike lane. hopefully that bitch will think twice before doing it again.

Kinda a mix between XC and Dirt Jump...

oh its sooo good to be back in the saddle since my last bike was stolen (a little sore though) :D

oh and Brunswick St Cycles rock, highly recommend. in general i find cyclists are the nicest bunch of people.

Here's my new ride.....

Now for the fitness.

Going to do the 8 hr 'Hard Day @ the Office' enduro at Eildon early next year.

A few months to get the legs pumpin again.

Oh and Hardtails all the way. I would get a dual susp but only with rear lockout on the handle bars but too much $$$ for my budget.

That Scott looks sweet. Always had a soft spot for Scott bikes.

Can't believe everyone is hating on the full sus bikes. You can get some pretty nice full sus bikes that are perfect for XC. They don't have to have huge amounts of travel, you'd be amazed at what 2-3 inches can do for your cornering.

Theres no better feeling that swoopy single track on a sunny 20 degree day in autumn on a nice XC full sus bike. No better feeling at all.

for me it's the cost. i can get a much better spec'd hard tail for 2 grand than i would with full sus, i'd love it to use on single tracks and not to be so scared about drop off's but the $$ puts me off.

have to disagreee with you about there being no better feelings tho. perhaps no better feeling with clothes on or while you're on a bike....
