no, the idea is that the theme would be changed automatically if the user is using a mobile device.

That's good. I thought you'd have that sorted anyway but just thought i'd ask anyway.

I only use computers for internet but I think the iPhone users would like this feature. I voted yes.

I would DEFINITELY use this. In fact, I've been waiting for someone to release an iPhone mod for phpBB for awhile now. It'd be great if it worked like Google Reader's mobile version, where browsing new posts didn't automatically mark them all as read once you closed the window, ie. just the threads you decided to open get marked as read. Much more appropriate for a mobile device where you may want to have a quick glance at a few new threads without losing all the new stuff if you've only got a couple of minutes free on the train.

Looks like there's a few mods around:

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1304135

http://code.google.com/p/phpbb-iphone-style/

The question is - if you browse the forum on your mobile, will you lose all the new threads next time you visit on a PC? :/

there's a few templates around, but i've got a library i wrote for a previous job that leverages off a free mobile handset list for detection. i'll use that for detecting the delivery.

yes - that's built into the core application. after all, if you log in, you are the same user. i'm hesitant to modify that behaviour currently.

I look at mb.c on the iPhone if I need details/address/times for a gig. Otherwise it's too labourious. Optimised version for mobile would be very handy.

And why would anyone vote 'no' anyway?

But you see how that's flawed for mobile devices right? Particularly on large forums, where there might be 5-10 pages of new threads every time you visit... Would there be a way to disable updating the last login time for the mobile profile only? How does it keep track of it on the server anyway? (I assume somewhere in the SQL database it records a timestamp for the last time you visited? Would it be possible to disable that? What updates it? Is it too deeply entrenched in the phpBB design to be modified?) So many questions! :)

iPhone users check out an app in Social Networking (duh) called Forums (duhhhhhhhhh). Ignore the others.

Bit different, takes getting used to. But a hell of a lot quicker than loading the full site in the iphone web browser.

Ah, I'm probably thinking of the older phpBB which would mark everything as read (basically just updated the timestamp internally for the last time you visited the forum) and only new posts after that date showed up next time you visited. If it's not like that anymore that's awesome.
