yeh you lucked out jbs

we got drinks while we waited but almost had to beg them to come and take your order after the first one- it was so busy

no mamasita for you then mrj!

i don't know why they can't take a $50 deposit via CC over the phone to secure booking. if you don't turn up you lose it. makes me so mad. i will never bother with cicciolinas at st kilda again. crossed town and trammed all the way there twice to be told 2 hour wait. it's so arrogant

liz how was the italian?

the Italian is well swank, well sitting up the top is. food is out of control awesome and service was great. i had the waigu (sp?) steak and we got various sides. it was amazingly yummy.

btw - my work paid for all the above restuarants, lovely Partners with credit cards equals awesome

come to hawksmoor near mine, it'll change your views on steak ... just the steak there (no sauces) is one of the best things i've ever eaten anywhere. amazing.

dont agree hugey

a steak at a good steak restaurant is unbeatable by any other food.

i especially like having steak in the japanese stone grill places. just a big hunk of meat and then cook it yourself as you eat. RAD and definitely not able to be replicated at home (at least not with my meager culinary skills).

:scr1pt: my cooking skills are few and far between so any food is generally better when eating at a restaurant. And steak is number 1 on that list, especially when someone else is paying and you can order the bestest steak ever!

lol yeah i am well lucky. its one reason why i hesitate to go government or places like that. i would never get the fancy meals! i like the fancy meals...when i don't pay for em

hughbert - see now you say that, but i have burned a pot before cos the water ran out. i have a bad attention span when it comes to cooking. i leave the oven on all the time. i am a danger in the kitchen, less time i spend there, the better

not giving a fuck is the main thing that I hate about service (term loosely applied here) in melbourne.

i'm sick to death of ironically moustached melbourne arts drop-outs too busy chatting with their barista mate to take your order, and when they do acting as though they are giving you some sort of special treatment. It's like you should be oh so grateful for being graced with their presence and being allowed to sit on a crap wooden stool in their over-priced shithole (im looking at you mitte), only so you can be treated to such exotic choices as crumpets with honey or vegemite on toast for 30 bucks a pop. And forget ordering a coke, we only carry Phoneix Organic Cola because we know it annoys you and I like annoying people because Im trying to live my life like a subject of an article in Vice magazine which means I just need to wear an awkward mixture of ill fitting early 90's grunge culture clothes and fluro 80's gear and be a complete prick to everyone I meet, particuarly to my customers.

These inattentive, self important doucebags working in these places need massive attitude re-adjustments and I am over their attitudes and venues that support them.

end rant.

sydney's got restaurants as good as melbs, but what it doesn't have (compared to melbs) is:
  • variety of cuisine
  • good 'middle tier' restaurants - it's either cheap or expensive, nothing in between
far too many sightings of the fat cravat (matt preston) as well.

You know how sometimes you look at a picture and you don't really want to point out it looks like something else, because that would indicate your mind's location in the gutter....?

As opposed to blatantly telling everybody that your mind is in the gutter? Out with it retzie!

Could it be:
A freshly cut fig looks like a gash?

Further input would be appreciated as my mind is already in the gutter and I am anxious for others to join me here.
