About Small Steps

A humanitarian project dedicated to supporting the children living on rubbish dumps around the world and raising awareness of the unacceptable hardships faced by them through film.

Mission

To put shoes on the feet of those who need them and to enable individuals to take small steps out of poverty.

Amy's story

"In 2008 I went to Cambodia, I worked with several NGO's and became aware of the plight of hundreds of people whose lives were spent living and foraging on municipal rubbish dumps. When I got back to the UK I decided to raise money so that I could return to Cambodia and put shoes on the feet of all the kids that worked on the rubbish dump in Phnom Penh.

Revolution Films heard about the project, suggested I film the experience and provided me with the equipment. With their support and sponsorship from Apple I was able to make Small Steps, short documentary film, which I hope will make up part of a bigger project, to confront poverty by initially putting shoes on the feet of all the people who live on rubbish dumps.

The project was lead by Raksmey Chan 'Mey' in collaboration with PSE- Pour Sourire d'Enfant NGO. http://pse.asso.fr/index.php

Mey lived on the dump as a teenager, was rescued by PSE and returned to the dump with me for the film and project. This documentary is her story of the dump and the empowerment of a teenage girl, Win, who she meets there and who she supports in to taking the first small steps out of poverty."

This is a short preview of Amy's next project "Around the world in 80 dumps."
