How good is pesto?
I love it in so many ways. Sure, it's good on pasta, but have you ever used it to liven up your humble cheese on toast? Or even to add that special something to a bacon, egg and tomato fry up? The possibilies are endless.
Hears to pesto!

Damn. I thought we were going to have a good ol' web brawl based around a like/dislike of pesto and it's affiliated foodstuffs. That would have kept me occupied for hours. Darn.

up until about 10:06am this morning i was under the impression that pesto was made with basil, garlic, olive oil and pine nuts....
however it would appear that coriander pesto and rocket pesto are also options... does this mean that pesto is just the name for any green mixture of chopped up fresh herbs? pesto experts please enlighten me

i think pate if far superior to both tapenade & pesto.... even if you don't like the taste, you kinda feel like you have to eat it coz of the suffering the poor goose went thru, otherwise all that pain was for nothing.

You're thinking of foi gras Fred.
Pate is a more generic term for a meat paste. Altho like most things, those fucken vegoes have fudged the meaning by creating 'pate' that doesn't include meat.

I think real pate (frenchy style) is meant to be made with liver.
The australian version is probably 'meat paste' though.
eeeuuw anyhow.
Can we go back to pesto, which has a delightful green colour, a superb flavour and doesn't come from anyone's liver.
I think it's all about the pine nuts... pine nuts rule the world.

actually.. I don't think that the basil is a must have. I remember when I was a wee lad, when we were living in Spain, going to Umbria for a weekend and having rocket & pumpkin pesto as one of the starter dishes at lunch.
