Been getting into quinoa lately. Good stuff, plus it's way quicker to cook than brown rice.
Nutritionally, quinoa might be considered a supergrain--although it is not really a grain, but the seed of a leafy plant that's distantly related to spinach. Quinoa has excellent reserves of protein, and unlike other grains, is not missing the amino aicd lysine, so the protein is more complete (a trait it shares with other "non-true" grains such as buckwheat and amaranth). The World Health Organization has rated the quality of protein in quinoa at least equivalent to that in milk. Quinoa offers more iron than other grains and contains high levels of potassium and riboflavin, as well as other B vitamins: B6, niacin, and thiamin. It is also a good source of magnesium, zinc, copper, and manganese, and has some folate (folic acid).
Amaranth is good too, but I never know what to use it in.

Must be something about coming out of winter and thinking "fuk, I seem to have eaten all the pies, and donuts, and everything with peanut in it". I also have started a no snacks rule this week. Got a bag of trail mix deskside: :spew: dried fruit. But got to be done. A button popped off one of my shirts last weeked when i breathed out too far. :puke:

Be careful on the trail mix if you're using it for weight loss reasons and it's packed full of nuts. Nuts are generally pretty fatty.

Still better than a chocolate bar. Lots of seeds and crap in the mix, just to put something in my mouth.

1 week of diet and no loose so far. Need to be stricter.
