Seems to be lots of shit to do. I wasn't really looking, but there were plenty of flyers/street press-y things about. Keep in mind it is also the city of the retardedly awesome festival, so there is Jazz Fest, Comedy Fest, etc. by way of special events. The 'hip' area is called Plateau, which is vaguely around Mont Royal. There, can be found Little Italy, where there is indeed proper coffee to be had. There is also a fuck-off big market, which has a fairly impressive array of produce. Also, plenty of little cafes, brunch places and the like. Tbh, the time I spent there was more focused on eating than drinking, but the one cocktail place we went to was cool (pharmacy themed). Not surprisingly, the french food is pretty rad.

I dunno. It's reasonably similar to Melbs in it's attitude and tendency to wear black (people compare Montreal vs Toronto to Melbs vs Sydney.) I found people to be pretty chilled and open to newcomers - my mates have been there a year and have a fairly comprehensive social circle. There are plenty of french-french peeps about, but the 'snobby french' attitude is not. (Btw, speaking French is handy, but by no means essential.)

I think all of the complaints I've heard are about the cold, so if that's not an issue, I'd say it's a pretty good option :)

ah yes, thats right. I got a reply the other day that I just thought, why would you recommend a place weeks before that, and then when I ask, this is what you say as recommendation:

Sulu is an extremely beautiful place but it is recommended you don't go there because extremists types are active there in various capacities.

It is also a great place to build off short oil rigs - which would do wonders for the eco-system in the region.
Great place for a honeymoon - get to the hotel - stay in the room and entertain yourselves (with room service between activities) 'till it's time to go home.

Um, ok. Wasnt really what I was expecting!! :? Strange. So sorry, I dont beleive i can actually provide what I suggested I could!!! :tard:

On a personal note, decided to take my Middle East trip either end of this year or beginning of next!!! oh yes! :blob6: gives you a new lease on life planning a trip ey. fucking WIN

Mitte is Berlin Quickster, downtown. Depending how long you are staying it is best to try to get into a co-op (i think that is what we called them). Kinda like a share house but in a building with a shared courtyard and a bunch of one bedders with shared toilets. some are sketchy as fuk. I was lucky enough to met a chick who was in one and gave me an in. Was like 20 people sharing a run down old building. Best times of my life.

I bought a car in Scotland. Mostly because they speak the language so it was easier and thats were I was when I wanted to start. Didn't do a proper transfer, just paid cash and took the car. I do know some people that bought a Winnebago in Spain - - they broke down a lot.

We caught a car ferry from Newcastle to Kristianstand in Norway.
What we did do is make sure the car was in the right shape that we wouldn't get in any unnecessary trouble in Europe. Stuff like - you have to have a fire extinguisher in your car in Germany (we stole one from a hostel in Sweden). In Czechi you have to have those little orange triangles on board as part of standard procedure.
Best thing was about having a car with no links back to us was not giving a shit about parking fines or toll gates. We just made sure we never got pulled over.
Most of the countries in Europe don't have manned border crossings any more. Only once we got to Poland and east to Latvia and Estonia did they have patrols, but they were not checking the car rego, they were just checking our passports.

stay in kreuzberg / friedrichshain or mitte.
its very easy to get around tbh. loads of goog drinking places that arent rammed with americans in kreuzberg and big turkish community for foods.

otherwise get wasted on bikes and ride teh parks.

cycle to teh abandoned (but still busy with people) Teufelsberg Listening station for best views in berlin, take dranks and joints and meet loose wimmen.

um loads to do, good museums / galleries as well. but dont bother with jewish museum as apart from the building its full of loads of boring shit outside of the first couple of exhibits.

berlin is very good place. raevs as well.

Heading off on thursday, We are pretty big fans of szechuan food (mapo tofu, hinabe, banbanji etc) and so kind of want to go to the home and try the real thing. Also our daughter is obsessed by pandas atm and there seem to be a lot of parks/semi natural environments to see pandas around szechuan. (probably applies to all of china but hey!). We wanted to stop over in Beijing/shanghai but both airports are flatout when we leave so szechuan it is for 10 days or so.
