Hi folks

Want to go for a weekend away with the missus somewhere in Victoria, wondering if anyone has any good recommendations? We used to go to this amazing place in Daylesford; a self-contained cottage made in the 60's and run by old hippies for $70 a night, but they don't do it anymore unfortunately. Something similar would be fantastic, at a similar price rate (we're both students..).

Cheers!

it was a beautiful surrounding when i was there, in terms of forest. looking online it seems pretty badly hit, with many tracks closed. they should have pictures though, there could be a lot of regrowth??

marysville area regrowth crazy. bush is beautiful. very different if you know it well, but very green and lush, espesh with all the rainz...
the whole area from heavesville on is looking amazing right now

not too many accom options open right now, but the town starting to find it's legs again. most brave imo.
lots of park tracks are open - closed paths listed on parks vic website.

check it out!

Thanks guys. Ended up going with the damp tent, girlfriend said she couldn't believe it, she was speechless actually.. I guess that means she loved it!

:teef:

gnat: yeah it was a once in a lifetime kind of place, real shame it's not run anymore, but it was unbelievably cute and the owners were chill as it gets.

I'd be happy to give Marysville a go, always nice to support those who really need it, might check out what's going on there now with the recovery.

Just spent 10 days in szechuan. Spent most of the time in Chengdu (which we did to death and went pretty much everywhere you could go lol) with 2 nights in huanglongxi which was a pretty cool 1700 year old town but a tad touristy TBH:

http://www.pbase.com/khimhai/china_sich ... cient_town

Even though we loved it I don't know if I would recommend Chengdu to everyone, if you were travelling around China it would probably just be another city, but having said that the people are renowned for being laid back and friendly so I think that was a plus.

Food was great as expected and the people were pretty funny aswell. Got more stares than I have ever gotten anywhere and the funniest was a bus driver who stared at me for 180 degrees from a frontal position all the way until his head was completely turned around (all whilst driving on a busy main street).

As always awesome kicks left right and centre but no sizes for the big footed white guy.

Unfortuanately we couldn't fly out of Shanghai due to bad weather on saturday so the airline put us up in a hotel with a massive banquet dinner. :kooislayer.:

If you happen to want to target academics: Sabbatical Homes. There is also a Melbourne Craigslist. Apparently ads on there tend to get most interest from travellers from the US/Europe (ie. where CL is already well established.) And yeah, Gumtree is also there. Mind you, I personally hate it (from the looking-for-a-place perspective.)

I'm sure there are straight-up house-swap websites too. Never been in a position to use any of them, though :dontknow:

so its going to be $400 for return flights to FNQ.

then expensive while im up there.

tempted to fuck off somewhere in Asia instead, but then it will prob be alone.

return flights air asia from Melb to Kl still around $500.

hmmm taiwan? vietnam? bali?

FNQ is gross imo. would be good if there was no tourists but everything is so tacky and expensive and strange. Asia much better option!

Queenstown or Wanaka, lady.

Both rule :kooislayer.:

Def. put some $$$ aside for one or two lessons... they'll get you on the blue slopes before the end of your trip! Cardrona, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables all have excellent beginner terrain. Trebel Cone is a bit more advanced... hit that one towards the end of your trip for some natural half-pipe action :)

So jealous... my guy and his brother just played two gigs in Queenstown and Wanaka on the weekend... sent me pix of snow park to kill me.

Countdown to the move to Whistler/Blackcomb keeping me sane. T-minus 3 months, apartment sitter locked and loaded, season passes paid in full, plane tickets booked, saving beer munny like a mad thing.

6 months of snowboarding. W1N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay nz holidays! I reckon Mt Ruapehu is better, not as stuckup, Queenstown is pretty and Wanaka is awesome, but draws so many wankers tbh. Check out this lady http://www.mtruapehu.com/ Spent many a season up there (over 10yrs ago ) but was rad for beginners and just a nicer vibe. Last time we went to Queenstown, we didn't enjoy. But Wanaka is seriously beautiful, and accomodation way way cheaper than Queenstown and only a shortish drive away.

not if you have other stuff to save for. the boy and i are saving for a house, we will do little trips when we can (like for our anniversary), but definitely no big ones cos all the money is being put away for da house

although! i am putting $10 a fornight away for a trip to America, want to drive across it. It may take a couple of years but will get there eventually. Could be a nice something for us when we get the house after all the crazy saving. in the meantime, i will be jealous of others people's holidays
