Can anyone help me with employment?? I am looking for anything. Now uni is over my current employer can only offer me 2 days a week and i need more than that.

Please, anyone i need a JOB.

shit goin here alot of the time... dunno if its your bag, but the pay aint shit, just the work...

ok, lets narrow it down:

- will u work weekends?
- had any sales experience?

I found out about all my jobs through Seek pretty much exclusively. I applied for like 50 or so jobs in one day, and that was looking back around a week and a half. I got like 6 or 7 interview slots organised through that. So the strike rate was pretty good for me. My resume also kicked arse . Also having a great track record with staying with companies for extended terms (2-3 years) also helped, recruiters LOVE that. It's also important to be really positive, it was really hard going for a while there for me, cause I felt kinda useless whilst just waiting waiting and waiting. But I got there in the end.

Also, I found that it's important not to totally compromise on every single little thing if you can afford to go without more work for a little while longer. You will be happier, and not resent your decision to work for a particular company. Also, having said that, it's important to focus on the benefits. And if those far outweigh the negatives, then you should do well. Apply for jobs even if you think you won't get them, just apply, apply, apply.

Eventually you will get a call from a recruitment agency (mostly). If you make a good impression on a recruiter, then that's half the battle. Even if you fluff up a second interview, you can always go back to the agency if you have a good relationship with them and they can always keep an ear to the ground for you, and/or give you a point of contact for anything that they might think you would be best suited for. It is a hard slog, I should know. But the best thing was getting in good with those agencies. Wow the fuck out of them, and they'll want to put you into something pretty bloody quick smart. Be dynamic. Be professional. But don't be a robot either, act enthusiastic, and be prepared for any question they'll throw at you. Look around on the web for "Behavioural based questions" regarding interviews. Best resource I ever had.

dude, approach recruitment consultancies directly, specify type of work you are after, and have a good up to date resume.

I would say call centre-ish work with with infrequent hours should not be hard to come by given the significant capacity constraints prevalent in the current labour market.

think i have those websites right, not sure. Just check the names of advertisers on seek and then go to the agencies direct.

Also I know a lot of gov agencies take on summer extras to do a lot of processing work, for example ASIC, shouldn't be too hard to get something with them, just find out who does their recruiting and you should be fine. If you ring em I cant see why they wouldnt be transparent about it.

i found the most interesting jobs is the ones you find yourself.

you can only know what you are passionate about and what you want to do in life/work. I really look at both as being the same -- you gotta be passionate about something.

don't just look at it like a 'job' its your damn life!

If u arent thinking of work as a chore so much but more as a lifestyle u get so much more milage from ur job.
But without some sort of profession you enjoy, that can be very hard.
Im in that boat at the moment.

I think the kind of effort required to get that kind of job requires time, and if you need a job desperately, then thats not possible. You just need to stay motivated and continue looking after you've got the money coming in from some job a little less desirable.

Plus if you're studying still, then you desired job may not be wise, as it would most probably take away some required time and effort for study...

Life is study, you never stop learning i'm telling you man. I don't know what school of thought you have envisaged yourself, but if work is looked upon as a chore and study as a means to an end -- i'm afraid you're riding the wrong wave to success.

The greatest formula I found is:

Inborn Attributes + Acquired Attributes * Attiitude = Individual Success

Inhibiting factors are fear. i.e fear of time, not doing something for the sake of not doing it, stress and time management concerns, money concerns. People generally will always be in a balance or comfort zone so to speak that maintains their equilibrium.

Your comfort zone as I see it is just having enough money to get by, maybe save a little, maybe study all in conjunction.

From what i've learnt/studied/experienced in my life -- you must familiarise yourself with your dreams when you were little. What you want to do, envisage each step as you DO them.

I don't mean to preach or tell you how to accept work -- but people especially friends I know always settle for less than they are and continue on a routine of hard work = success; this in a lot of cases will work if you enjoy hard work and a same level of money.

The more money, the more bills -- it's in your nature to 'expect' certain things. The best that I know is to live out what you WANT to do. If you let your environment dictate your ambition/passion you are only harming yourself.

I never look at work as being something to do to get by.

It's a conscious choice. I've heard a great quote "If you go to work everyday on something you love, you have never really worked a day in your life"

Looking for the right job is almost full time work, and if you just need cash, then thats not the time to do it... set your self up, then start....

and working for your career job will affect your study if you've never worked hard whilst studying before.

It may seem trivial, but consider how negative that statement is. "he just needs a job" -- of course everyone needs the triage of human survival; food, shelter, security and so forth -- but if it's a job you want, it's a job you'll get. If it's a passion you want it's life you'll get!

You can only study so much, anyone will be an expert at anything as long as you distinguish yourself in whatever you wish to do. The best thing is to specialise, not to feel that studying anything will make you learned.

ok I can see where you comming from, a couple of things though:

-- you dont know if kronz is chasing their dreams already, or if they even have career based dreams, which they dont have to.
-- specializing often requires studying, and lots of it.
-- even dreams jobs become just jobs from day to day.
-- there is just not enough flexability in socioty for everyone to do exactly what they want
-- could be the internets fault, but you came across a bit arogant there, like you where looking down on people (just thought id say so! no hard feelings)
-- "excuse me sir, you have not payed rent in 2 months, pehaps you should get some more hours to get on top of things?" "no time for that! I want to be the worlds most famous surealist painter!"

I never stated I was an expert at life, or a guru of choice. I'm merely commenting about decisions, direction, things i know and have come to know by observing/interacting/learning from experiences that i've had personally.

I think to bestow wisdom of any form is the best way to form your OWN opinion that later translates to choice

In the world I live in, we often have to do things, i.e. Work at jobs we may not want to work at in order to:
- Pay rent
- Eat food
- Not die.

I work in Superannuation. I personally couldn't give a fuck less about Super, but It's a lot more appetising than being hungry and homeless.

I have passions.... friends, socializing, music, sport... many other things, my job supports that, I'm happy.

I agree with what you are saying Rob, i do have career dreams and passion and i am chasing them through study. But unfortunatly i'm not in a position to fulfill those dreams now. I dont want to sound negative by saying i'm just looking 'for a job' but thats what i want (and i'm not selling myself short). I'm a full-time student and thats what my passion is. Now that uni is over for the year i need money for food, clothes, coffee and smokes etc. and maybe for a few of those internationals that will be rolling through town in the next few months. I'm sure you understand as you would have been in my position once. On another note Rob, what do you do?? It sounds like you really enjoy it.

Quick, in relation to the optus link you posted, what is the best department to apply for?? I have an interview at an optus world tomorrow but its only casual and i think i would be selling myself short if i accepted it (not that i can be fussy). I don't know if you remember me but i'm that guy that works in the juice bar off st. kilda rd that commented to your jugelist movement t-shirt.

yeh i'm rolling my own business soon. firstly panning out the business plan, is fun and hard work at the start-and when I get it right I will be financially independant which i've never been myself.

So my dream is getting there slowly, currently unemployed, but i don't see it as that -- it just means I have more time to implement what i've learnt!!!

previously had a really very high paying job; but it wasn't me (and the IT industry is suffering; clients were dwindling and i knew my future wasn't in it), and the stress was shit, and can say I have enough to build freedom and choice into my life, so i'm moving into the direction of getting more so I can give.

I'm not as dense as some people think. I just tend to improve in areas that i'm suffering and it pans out for the best.

I'm doing what I enjoy now, and forsee opportunities opening.

And Oprah....well i needed something when i signed up, i dont know that much about computers (i dont know how to shrink an image) and it was the first image i could find that was small enough. Having said that its starting to grow on me, mind you it could be so much better.

I don't think there is anything goin atm for optus, but check admin and customer service in melb, you can do a job search, just choose melb, salery and fulltime, you'll be right.
