Oh and on the subject of that kid getting bodyslammed.....

I hope there's more to the other kid's suspension than what we see in the footage. He couldn't have handled himself better. He's practically surrounded by a pack of fucking dogs, the leader of which is repeatedly snotting him. He cops it sweet then ends it using what can only be deemd due force. One could argue that he should've walked away, but what's to say the little cunts wouldn't have followed him and sucker punched him from behind?

Thank god there's people campaigning for him. Worst thing i've seen in ages. Almax is prob right too......unlikely the little shit will learn his lesson. He'll prob just go learn MMA or start packing a knife

Hard to tell if it's a case of these things being reported more often, therefore being placed more prominently in the public eye, but I tend to think that a culture of pack violence is on a steep rise in this city http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/man-b ... 1bwtk.html

Shit is totally fucked up. Attacked FROM BEHIND after asking a bunch of louts to stop swearing in front of his small kids. Even on the off chance the bloke did employ a provocative tone (which he probably didn't), nobody deserves to be gang bashed from behind

These pricks deserve to be locked up and fed their own excrement. Public transport these days is out of control. You can't travel two stations down my line without encountering one or more testosterone fuelled twits looking for an easy target

indeed, the little kid probably should have got an expulsion.
or the bigger kid should have got less, either way they def should not get the same punishment, that is bullshit
what about the kid with the camera, and all their friends, i swear they should have got punished also for egging the shit on

Police officer banned from basketball after incident with female referee Megan Levy
April 8, 2011 - 9:18AM

A police officer has been banned from attending basketball matches for five years after an incident involving a teenage female referee.

Police today confirmed the acting inspector from Maroondah was off-duty when the incident occurred at a basketball match in Knox in early March.

Advertisement: Story continues below ''We are aware of the incident. There is no Ethical Standards Department investigation into the matter,'' a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

''It's an incident that has occurred when the member was off-duty and not actually in his position at all.''

The spokeswoman could not elaborate on the officer's alleged actions, or the command to which he was attached.

However, this website understands the 18-year-old referee lodged a complaint against the officer alleging he swore at her, tried to grab her whistle and left her frightened and intimidated.

The acting inspector has apologised in writing to Basketball Victoria, expressing his shame at his behaviour.

What a power tripper of a cop, obviously couldn't handle not having the authority!

NZ Government uses the Christchurch Earthquake to pass through a poorly designed copyright law.

I'm all for copyright protection to a certain extent - I work for a company that makes it's money from movies and television, but this measure shows that the NZ government is in the pocket of big media, and willing to pass a law that most of its citizens are against.

The most shameful part is they took advantage of the Christchurch earthquake by using urgency to pass this through without public debate.

In addition, they also passed this law: http://www.3news.co.nz/Legal-aid-change ... fault.aspx

So as I understand it it is bill not debated in the house since Novemeber which has been passed once before then rescinded after massive public outcry is all or a sudden raised again silently and attached to a Christchurch Earthquake sitting as a matter of urgency?

A bill which allows for the punishment of individuals or businesses without any proof or demonstration of due process? So it's really taking the justice process out of the hands of the courts and putting it into the hands of the music industry.

I'm all for stopping illegal piracy, but I really don't think that trusting the people doing the accusing with no policy for checking in place is smart.

I think the govt see it as an issue they need to address, but they are just doing an awful job of it which inspires no faith that they are any good at doing anything really.

At the end of the day a system which relies on external, unchecked bodies which have the most to gain from a high number of offences to police the public seems like a total farce to me.

Having said that, can I think of a better way? No.

It doesn't work like that in this case I don't think.

The RIAA or whoever sends a infringement notice to the ISP and they translate the IP and time to a person and take the action prescribed.

The responsibility for finding infringements is on the industry.

At least that's what I got out of it.

I think "happens all the time" is a vast overstatement, and even if so, doesn't make it any more acceptable. I think the vocal public protests that happened when they first tried to introduce this law make it more worthy of public debate.

youthful_implants wrote:Most citizens, if you asked them, would probably oppose taxation too - doesn't mean its not necessary.

I think they are called libertarians, and besides them I don't see that many large campaigns for the abolition of tax.

youthful_implants wrote:Copyright law needs to be brought into the 21st Century. Soundcloud are on it, and I hope in 10 years time illegal file-sharing will be a thing of the past, outmoded by free streaming or paid subscription sites. And good riddance.

Copyright law needs to be fair, balanced and well thought out and not written solely by the entities that are going to profit from it. Personally I do buy all of my music and movies. My hope is that file sharing etc becomes a thing of the past because media companies make content affordable and accessible enough without people having to resort do illegal downloads.

youthful_implants wrote:People use the lack of regulation on the net to assume some kind of pseudo-anarchic stance which I find really irritating. The internet is not different to the real world, because its part of it, and the same laws should apply. Call me conservative if you like. ;)

Agreed, the internet is not different to the real world, at least in an ethical sense, but it's the media companies that want the law to apply differently. Should you really have to pay a separate fee for a song you have paid for but uploaded to the cloud? That's what is happening between Sony and Amazon. I could think of more examples, but I can't be bothered.

My point is that government should be creating legislation that benefits people (and business), not just business.
