Wishful thinking.
It's the business end of the season....

funnier things have happened.

Essendon over Saints

Melbourne over Freo

Carlton over Adelaide doesn't actually sound like it's that out of reach....

Brisbane getting over Carlton last night was ace.

Watching Collingwood get shown how to play real footy by the Saints wasn't so ace.

Glad to see Malthouse go, can't coach us against the Saints for shit. Grrrrrr...

agree couple of coaching decisions not that great in hindsight, but i think mick tried something different as he needed to.

don't think can blame the coach for the result - saints won as too much class all over the field - midfield clearances and marking forwards.
our midfield - swan, dides, davis all outplayed and pendlebury injury didnt help.

never expected to win this game so thought we fought quite well.

Great game Sat night, for once i was actually barracking for the Pies as i was at my Dads house and they are his team.

Some interesting Hawthorn news has popped up, a deal has been made for Burgoyne to come to Hawks from Port and a bid for a trade for Sandilands is underway, will cost the Hawks their first and second round pick and also a player, said to be either Ladson or Ellis.
Look out competition, Hawks 2010 with a fully fit side + Josh Gibson up back, Burgoyne in the middle and Sandilands in the ruck.

I gave up though.

Burgoyne was reported as wanting to come back to a Victorian Club - is Hawthorn the favorite?

All Aust selection last night.

do you think Judd didn't get the captaincy because of his 'pressure point' incident?

For a captain to make outrages excuses of something so blatant, then after copping three weeks tells the press he's been watching Steven Seagal movies, i'd be embarrassed not only from a Blues Supporter perspective but from an AFL perspective.

Yep, that will be sweet...IF it happens. I know little of the draft system here, but can't like 8 other teams pick him up first? Someone please tell me I'm wrong.
:roll:
*taken from the "go cats" thread*

nah OB, there is no free trade agency in the AFL (but the players are fighting for it)
So as Burgoyne has signaled that he wants to leave, his club can try to trade him away for a favorable deal, if they don't get one they like, they may say to him, tuff titties you are staying, he then may say no, fuck you all, im out, he would then go into the pre season draft (what Cousins went into) and Melbourne could pick him. If they don't want him, the second last team would be able to (Richmond) and so on up the ladder.

So it is unlikely that Port will play hard ball with Burgoyne as they tried to do this with Stevens who went into the pre season draft and then went to Carlton a few years ago, Port got nothing in return for that.

Sooo, Hawks (9) have a higher pick than Essendon (10) who are also interested in Burgoyne, Burgoyne has also nominated that he would like to go to Hawthorn.

I don't get that, Mitch Hahn is a great forward. Tall and fairly solid too.

I hope the Maggies get Luke Ball and Jolly. We've needed a non-unco ruck since Monkhurst.

Well with the injury forced retirement of one our (hawks) Rucks/Defender Robert Campbell, seems the Hawks have turned their interest from Burgoyne to Jolly, looks like Josh Kennedy and pick 9 for Jolly i'd reckon, unless Collingwood can come up with a better offer.
Be a shame to see Kennedy go, he has potential to be a great player i reckon, especially with his football pedigree.

oh poor Fev, nobody wants him, not even his own club :(

:teef:

I knew this was gonna happen, i just reckon it's a club tactic to get him to behave and pull his head in. Be stupid for them to offload the coleman medalist, they just wanted to give him a scare and say next time, we won't even try to trade you, just delist you.

^ Agree Al - media blow up so Carlton seem top be seen as doing the right thing.

Allegedly the AFL was going to delist him for the start of next season (5 rounds) as punishment before Carlton made announcement that he was up for trade.

potential list of offences carried out by Fev @ Brownlow

* told a lot of people to **** off
* abused Gibbsy's girlfriend
* got in a heated argument with Murphy
* hit Murphy
* hit another Carlton player
* touched up Twigley
* told judd to **** off
* exposed himself to various people
* touched up some journo
* threw up
* pushed Ratten
* tried to find greg swan and give him an earful, couldn’t find swan so abused sticks
* had a dust up/argument with a player from another club

Interesting.....

On the flip of that Liz - allegedly there is a hell of a lot more that he's done in the past that the club has kept under wraps that could leak its way out.

which would be bad news for the Fevolator...

very bad

agree though - fire extinguishers would have been a cack.

I want confirmation on who he belted at the brownlow.

Soo, season 2010 less than 2 months away.
Some interesting bets im thinking of taking with regards to the brownlow. (both Hawthorn centric of course)

Cyril Rioli is to be replaced in the forward pocket by new Brisbane recruit Rhan Hooper, freeing him up to take a role in the midfield, if this happens he may have a stella year, perhaps a Brownlow?
He is paying $81 to $1 pretty good bet i reckon, $100 bet now could turn into $8,100 by September.

Also apparently Lance Frankin has had a stella off season, the fittest he has ever been, and now with Burgoyne and Rioli in the midfield plus the rotating talents of Mitchel, Sewel, Bateman, Jordan Lewis and Clinton Young delivering him leads, he could have another 100 plus goal year. In 2008 when he kicked over 100 he had 20 brownlow votes, just 4 off eventual winner Cooney.
He is Paying $26 to $1 for the Brownlow.

Yeah, but we have fuck all ruck and backline may struggle again.
But, having said that, young Shoenmakers showed alot of promise in the backline last year, rebounding half back/wingman Clinton Young will be back from injury (Many experts said he was a shoe in for the Norm Smith in 2008 at Half time before he injured himself) and Josh Gibson can hopefully step up in his first season with the Hawks.
Im excited.

Natinui will be an impressive player i imagine, he played some games last year though, is he still considered for rising star?

ALSO...

Im gonna try this Dream team/Super coach thing out this year, but which one?
I hear Dream Team is all numbers not effectiveness whereas Super coach rewards players for effectiveness with the ball and less clangers etc so im leaning towards going with super coach, anyone else use either or both?

Spies, maybe you chould start up a league for us all to join in on.

Super Coach is awesome, never did DreamTeam...

Rising Star is an age based entry comp, pretty sure he fits in still.
