It's an oldie, but watched Boondock Saints last night. Excellent film Totally ignores all the narrative and plot rules, and morality, of cinema and modern storytelling. So many cool lines too.

Someone told me recently the sequel sucks ass.

But the original... what a fucking cack. So, so very funny.

I love it when Beat Takashi (sp?) just gets up, wanders over and eats the last of the cookies.

Doesn't translate real well when written does it?

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but I watched Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind last weekend and was blown away. Great cinematography, great script, amazing dark vibe and every cast member nailed it..

Battle Royale... what a film!

I loved every moment of that flick from start to finish. However, it doesn't even come close to the book, which is easily the best thing I read in 2003.

Will.. you are right, the sequel sucks major ass. It substitutes the younger class we saw in the first movie with a bunch of (much) older kids, who look like they've been torn from the pages of Fruits. It ends up being a complete wank fest, wanders away from the whole idea of the first movie/novel, and has the most unbelievably shitty ending.

I'd be happy to lend you the book if you're up for a light read about schoolchildren slaughtering each other.

As for Jim Carrey, Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events is the pinnacle of his achievement.

I saw Sideways on the weekend. I must say it's rather overrated - how that film got an Oscar nomination for Best Picture escapes me :?

It's a bit like Road Trip but with middle aged men.

away with you!

If one may liken films to chocolate..
Liar Liar = Freddo Frog fun for kids but low quality ingredients and copious slapstick humour
Eternal Sunshine = Ferrero Rocher with the occasional foray into Lindt territory (brilliant tending to sublime)

I'm surprised that Jim Carrey is getting all the props for Eternal Sunshine. I thought Kate Winslet's performance was fantastic and her character Clementine was so well written.

Oh and if you haven't already, do see this film:

I think he gets major props as he's not usually known for acting of this calibre, and when it happens, its has more of the WOW factor.

No way. That bit where the kid loses faith in his daddy but then his dad earns back his trust, it's soooo moving. I cried like a lil bitch.

I cried harder when Bambi's mum died.

I picked up Volcano High the other day from JB. Has anybody else seen this? I haven't watched all of it yet but I fully expected some martial arts kungfoolery and instead have been greeted by lots of forcefields.

Saw Eternal Sunshine not too long ago myself...was blown away by it as well. One i'm looking forward to seeing again.

Kate Winslet's performance was amazing...very rare that a character like that is played so well. Seems like there's ofter a tendency to totally over do it.

I'm gutted that it took so long for me to actually catch it as the main reason i avoided it was the whole Jim Carey factor. I can't stand the man's films of the past, but his performance in Eternal Sunshine has inspired me to see Lemony Snicket's...haven't as yet, but will at some stage. Hopefully he's moving out of the over the top characters of the past because his recent efforts have proved that he's a talented actor that can do much more than pull an obnoxious face...

Agrre on most points, but movies like Dumb & Dumber, and Ace Ventura were GOLD, and couldn't have been done by anyone else, but they are few and far between when it comes to quality stupid comedies. But I do hope he does them now and agin.

COME ON!

Man on the Moon was easily his best job. Gold from start to finish, and a dope job of charcter acting is hard to do, him and Rush have it down.

I love Man on the Moon, going to watch it tonight.
I personally thought Sunshine lacked a punch, it was moody, but didnt carry for my liking.

That was more like a $1.50...

Agreed on Kate Winslet though, she absolutely nailed it. Props to the support cast too, Frodo and Spidergirl nailed pathetic and needy with aplomb...

Recently watched 'Envy' and it was another one of Stiller's flops following Duplex and Dodgeball. Did laugh a couple of times though.

'Suzie Gold' staring River Pheonix's younger sister Summer is probably one of the funniest feel good films I've seen in ages. 8) 8) 8)

Also got 'Save the last dance' (richard gere, susan sarandon and j.lo). My sister watched it last night and said it was cheesy but done well. Will most probably watch it over the weekend; along with 'Final Cut' (Robbin Williams, Mira Sorvino & James Cavazel.

Alien vs Preditor & Somersault also come out in the next two weeks at work.

When the young kid got hit in the head with a wrench and went down, and there was good minute or so of him just lying on the ground goin "oh my god... arggghhh... oh.. my ... god"?

Ahahahahahaha. I almost wet myself. Incidentally, I bought Dodgeball the other day just for that scene.

Apparently Collateral is out on dvd soon as well. There was a review in the Age today, so I'm going to go hunt for a copy.

Went the slack dvds option last night:
Eternal Sunshine... (seen it already) Big fan of the work of charlie kaufmann and the other dudes involved with films like Being John Malcovich, Adaptation etc..

Coffee and Cigarettes..missed it at MIFF and when it was on gen release, finally saw it last night, verdict:funny as. Igg Pop & Tom Waits, the Wu Tang dudes with Bill Murray and the Cate Blanchett pieces were the best...anyone else thoughts on this?(apologies if it's already been brought up)

Also am trying to find Akira Kurosawa's Dreams on dvd...anyone know if its been relased on dvd yet?

Wached Alien vs Predator, Taxi and the Notebook yesterday.

Alien vs Predator: nice special effects and plot, but nothing compared to the orignials
Taxi: the only thing going for it was Giselle

The Notebook: could not stop crying in the last 20 minutes.

Haha Fents

Aha I loved that movie. Wasn't there Short Circuit 2 as well? I'm waiting for Short Circuit 3, where Johnny Five has triggered World War III after being integrated into the US Defense Network. Then after he nearly wipes out the human race, he sends a Johnny Five back in time to kill the leader of the human resistance while he is still an unborn child.

Bizarre coincidence or what? maybe its like johnny 5 mk II

Bought Collateral SpecEd on Thursday arvo. Every time I see this movie I love it more and more. I got the SpecEd for $3 more than the regular edition. At Virgin, the price difference between the two was $15.
