Checked 'You Don't Mess With the Zohan' last night.

Not bad... although it did seem a little Borat-ish in parts.

3.5/5 silly stars.

Anyone see At the Movies last night? It was a great episode with Margaret & Dave disagreeing on practically every film they reviewed. Just like the old days!

The Wackness

Quite enjoyed, found myself giggling more than a few times. Main character Shapiro was very likable, was on the ride with him throughout the whole movie. I liked Mary-Kate Olsen's character and she played it very well, surprising cause I was expecting very little from her. Then again, how hard is it to play a stoned hippie. Ben Kingsley has always been a fave of mine and he did his character justice.

I can't recall if I mentioned it or not earlier, but the Spanish Film Festival, La Mirada, starts at ACMI tonight. Awesome looking program this year. I'm going to see heaps of it! :) There's even films for foodies this year!

Saw a wicked hilarious Chinese movie last night on SBS called AV (I think). Piss funny, about some film students who con the manager of a top class Japanese porn star to come (haha) perform in their "professional" porn film, with money they got from a government grant to make egg biscuits. Hilarious. Where can I score some more of these killer movies?!

4.5 outta 5...all class, with some ass.

watched 'american teen' a doco filmed at a high school in warsaw indiana over the course of a year.
she picked quite stereotypical characters to follow but i really liked this, some scenes you were just going
'i cant beleive they filmed this and its real' not becasue its gory or overly sexual or anything, but because the kids are so raw,
so real.
the dad who dresses up as elvis, the pimply kid who plays video games and wants love but has minus ten social skills...

I had the unparalleled pleasure of watching Under Siege yesterday. A whole house-hold of people slowly migrated to the lounge room to join the fun. Yes, Gary Busey has amazingly large teeth, Steven Segal actually looked good compared to recent movies I've seen and Tommy Lee Jones looked so bloody young! Given the cramped nature of the naval ship location, we didn't get to see Segal running which was a shame cause it's a hilarious sight.

Total badness to goodness ratio was high, I give it 4 out of 5.

you should see the original big croc movie, Alligator. Saw it when I was a wee tyke and I pissed my pants with fear. To this day I can't go into a swimming pool at night, even if the lights are on

Checked 'Body of Lies' last night.

It's the Ridley Scott directed "war of the day" flick starring Russel Crowe, Leo DiCaprio and even Vince Colossimo in a smaller role.

I really liked it. For me, the selling point is the fact that it doesn't play our like your standard big-budget Hollywood "hollier and mightier than thou" espionage/war movie. Without giving too much away, I think there's some generalisations that are meant to be drawn from this movie.

So I finally watched The Happening with Mark Wahlberg. I have to say I actually enjoyed it for what it was...more of a picture in time during an event than a beginning middle and end story with actual focus. It was eventful, suspenseful and got me thinking a little. Not about plants getting revenge (haha) but general end of the world stuff, plagues and such.

The lady playing Mark's love interest was the WORST ACTRESS I've seen in a long time, her pretty eyes just weren't enough for me. Nice rack though.

2.5 (maybe 3) stars outta 5. Didn't blow me away, but didn't bore me. I was quite involved in it.

I was expecting it to be total shizen thanks to the reviews, but then again I expected Wanted to be good and that was the crappiest movie of 2008 imo. It's better to have low expectations me thinketh.

Felt the same about it. Id read a heap of reviews, which were all really bad, and was expecting the movie to be utter tripe. But being a fan of a Shammy and Marky Mark, i felt obliged to watch it regardless. I think if id gone in without low expectations i would have been disappointed - but i went in not expecting anything and was happily surprised.
My g.f watched it with me, and hadn't heard anything about the movie or read any reviews, and totally hated it! She got up half way through, after the lawn mower incident, and left the room... hahaha

had a bit of a marathon last weekend.

Into the wild - amazing film. absolutely loved it. spectacular to look at and made me want to indulge in the escape from life fantasy. what a wicked, if not entirely selfish, thing to do.

Burn after reading - was too hungover to concentrate/get into it. might give it another go. brad pitt's character was lol though. george clooney is :smt007

Ken Park - holy crap. confronting much?! nearly every kind of fucked up human behaviour is crammed into 2 hours. incest, murder, suicide, underage sex, child abuse, it goes on. not surprised that it was banned, but it was good nonetheless although there didn't seem to be much of a plot. it finished and i didn't quite know what to think.

second time in a week I've been pleasantly surprised by a movie. Saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall and actually enjoyed it  yeah, I'm quite shocked after all the terrible reviews it got. I laughed out loud many times, especially at this line "when life throws you lemons you just gotta say fuck the lemons and bail".

Recommended for a stupid night in. Lots of cock, I'm surprised at how much full frontal male nudity there was. Yay for equal opportunity

the soundtrack is awesome too, all eddie vedders music...

i watched 'Stop Loss' this week, about the US army soldiers who get told they are being sent back to iraq after their tour is meant to be over. ryan phillipe as lead had me skeptical but damn, he was great!
this was one of the best films on this subject ive ever seen, really explored the conflict these guys feel with duty/freedom and the futility of what has gone on over there. and really showed the damage to young soliders that being shipped off to war can create.

three and three quarters out of five.

Its a surprisingly well constructed movie imo. There was less cock in it than Watchmen (one scene at teh start?). I'm a massive fan of this movie.

Watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans the other day for shits and giggles. There were no giggles to be had it was fucking terrible imo. Poorly acted (Bill Nighy is better than this), shit scripting, needed more boobs tbh (Mitra Rhona...).

Yep... long, but great movie.

When they roll up to Brando's lair - scary stuff!

Took out Max Payne, against my better judgement, on Sunday night. Watched 30mins before ejecting... shithouse, as expected.

.....is not necessarily the most important part of any film.

and anyway I thought it was totally sufficient.

for example Arnie in Terminator - shockingly bad actor, still an amazing film.

The acting is definately one of the most important parts of any film, along with script and direction IMO.

Certain genre's (such as action) can sometimes get by with sub-standard acting.
