could be the chilled mentality of being on holiday, and being near beaches that also does it. i become a total beach bum down at Lorne each year, and want to live there forever. i also wanted to move to Langkawi and open up some random bar or something and live there too. ....actually, i still want too

THE United Nations was set today to appoint a Malaysian astrophysicist to act as Earth's first contact for any aliens that may come visiting.
Mazlan Othman, the head of the UN's little-known Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), is to describe her potential new role next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire.

She is scheduled to tell delegates that the recent discovery of hundreds of planets around other stars has made the detection of extraterrestrial life more likely than ever before - and that means the UN must be ready to coordinate humanity’s response to any “first contact”.

During a talk Othman gave recently to fellow scientists, she said: “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials.

"When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such coordination.”

Professor Richard Crowther, an expert in space law and governance at the UK Space Agency and who leads British delegations to the UN on such matters, said: “Othman is absolutely the nearest thing we have to a ‘take me to your leader’ person.”

However, he thinks humanity’s first encounter with any intelligent aliens is more likely to be via radio or light signals from a distant planet than by beings arriving on Earth. And, he suggests, even if we do encounter aliens in the flesh, they are more likely to be microbes than anything intelligent

STOP THE PRESS

...bill and ted 3 is on the way!

MOST EXCELLENT EXCLUSIVE: Alex Winter Confirms 'Bill & Ted 3' Is On The Way!

NOTE: A big shout to @MTVMoviesBlog follower @antmaurizio for urging us to chat with Alex Winter about "Bill & Ted."

When we spoke with Keanu Reeves at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, we learned a couple of things: one, Reeves does a killer Werner Herzog impression, and two, there's another "Bill & Ted" movie in the works!
Lest you think that Reeves was pulling our leg, we turned to the other half of the righteous duo, Alex Winter, for further confirmation. According to the actor and director, "Bill & Ted 3" is absolutely in development.

"We kicked around the idea over the years and had always thought if we could make something that was as kind of genuine in spirit as the originals and without falling prey to kind of retro cynicism or something that was unnecessary, it would be worth doing," Winter told MTV's Adam Rosenberg in an interview arranged, amusingly, via Twitter. "Now the cat's out of the bag, and the truth is that, yeah, we have finally hit upon an idea that we think is pretty great."
"We've been working on it for the past couple of years, honing that idea and getting it into shape," he continued. "[Screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon] are working on it now. The bottom line is that we still all feel like we need to sit down and look at a script and see if it's everything that it can be before we set about doing anything with it."

Winter wasn't able to divulge much about what "Bill & Ted 3" will focus on, though he emphasized that the movie won't be "cynical."

"The essence of what we've always wanted to do is to make a 'Bill & Ted' movie," he said. "We don't want to make a cynical 'here's Bill and Ted — you guys are our kids, now YOU guys go be Bill and Ted and the franchise can live for another 25 years!' It's not that. It's a straight up, what's the funniest and most surprising take on where Bill and Ted would be right now if we stopped back in on them? That's what we're doing."

One of the biggest obstacles facing the project, according to Winter, is figuring out how to deal with the absence of the late George Carlin, who famously played the time-traveling Rufus.

"We're working our way through it right now," said Winter. "It's really complicated. He was such a big part of the spirit of the originals, and we've been trying to be clever about making a new one that can handle the Carlin issue. It's actually stopped us in the past — why do it without Rufus? We've been delicate about moving around him."

Thankfully, the thought of recasting Rufus has never even crossed Winter's mind.

"That would be horrible," he said. "That's the thing about the movies — they're personality-based. It's Reeves' personality when he's doing comedy, it's my personality and it was George's personality. It doesn't really work when you're pretending that other people are those people, because there's just not that much there [otherwise]. No, we're definitely not going to recast Rufus."

As for when "Bill & Ted 3" will arrive in theaters, it's still too early to say, though Winter certainly hopes it's sooner rather than later.

"We would love to not be doing this when we're 60, I'll leave it at that," he laughed. "That would involve some major rewrites! In all seriousness, it's a question of when the script is done, when Reeves is free, when I'm free, and getting the whole damn thing up and running. It's a whole process. The first thing we have to do is see if we've got a script that we all agree on."

No, because when I want to tell the time I don't want to have to stare at my watch for 10 seconds waiting for my eyes to refocus. It doesn't necessarily get easier with time either.

Former Air Force officers say UFO's attacked nuclear missile sites
They will break decades long silence on Monday
http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.acti ... 4978549095

Former Air Force Officers have decided to break their decades long silence regarding UFO's that supposedly attacked nuclear weapons sites. It may sound a lot like science fiction but it's not, at least not according to reports by these former military personnel.

The former Air Force Officers will be holding a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. on Monday. Many will ask why these men have decided to come forward now after years of silence. Well, it seems as though they feel that the truth should be known and not kept under wraps any longer.

One such story comes from Air Force Capt. Robert Salas, who says that on March 16, 1967, he witnessed a UFO event while he was working a 24 duty at a nuclear missile site in Montana.

"I got a call from the topside guard, telling me they were watching some strange lights flying around in the sky, making odd maneuvers. They didn't think they were airplanes because they were going very fast, turning on a dime and not making a bit of noise," Salas said.

"A few minutes later, he called back, this time screaming into the phone, scared to death, and he said, 'Sir, I'm looking out my front window and there is a glowing red oval-shaped object hovering right above the front gate, and I've got all the guards out here with their weapons drawn.' "

Salas said that he gave the guards permission to use any force necessary to keep the weapons safe. However, the UFO's weren't daunted.

"All of a sudden, we started getting bells and whistles going off. As we looked at the display board in front of us, sure enough, the missiles began going into an unlaunchable, or no-go, mode. They couldn't be launched -- it went from green to red," Salas said. "We also had a couple of security violations, meaning there were lights indicating some kind of intrusion at the missile sites, where the missiles were actually located, about a mile or two away from the launch control facility."

How was this possible? Salas and his unit were scared and confused by what they witnessed. When Salas spoke with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, he first asked if what they had just been through was some sort of Air Force exercise, and says he was told "absolutely not."

"After we told them our recollection of the incident, the AFOSI captain wanted us to sign papers, saying we'd never talk about this and swear we wouldn't even talk to our wives or any of the other airmen on the base -- nobody," Salas explained.

"I felt a little weird about this because all of us who were launch officers had above top-secret clearance, and I asked, 'If this is classified, what's it classified as?' And he said, 'Secret,' and I said, 'Well, we've got above top secret -- why do we have to sign anymore papers?' "

Why was the military keeping this hidden? Were they afraid that it would cause some sort of mass panic? It didn't matter that they decided to keep things under wraps, because word got out nonetheless. There have been various reports of commercial airplane pilots and Air Force personnel stating that they have witnessed things that are beyond human explanation.

Salas says that he decided to come forward because he feels it's time for people to know the truth. "I believe in the extraterrestrial hypothesis, and I think, in this instance, these objects were not constructed on planet Earth."

and heres the link to watch the full 1 hour 10 min conference
