weird

any tracks that I have bought from my Iphone when I connect to my Itunes it automatically imports them to Itunes during sync.

tbh if I had to do it manually i wouldn't even know where to start, it always just does it by itself.

Malicious copycat iPhone virus unleashed

ASHER MOSES

He's created a monster ...
An experimental world-first iPhone virus created by a 21-year-old Wollongong TAFE student has inspired a new, malicious version that steals passwords and gives hackers complete control of the victim's mobile, security experts agree.

The new virus, dubbed "Duh" after a section of its code, also only affects iPhones that have been "jailbroken", the jargon term given to the process of altering the device to allow it to run pirated apps or those that were not approved by Apple for its App Store.

But security researchers say the new version is far more sinister, connecting the phone to an "internet control and command centre" in Lithuania that allows hackers surreptitiously to issue commands to the device remotely.

It also appears to be designed to steal online banking passwords and scrape the user's SMS messages.

The BBC reported that the virus was detected in the Netherlands, redirecting people who visit ING's online banking site to a phoney look-alike designed to steal their passwords.

ING is taking the threat seriously and has published a notice on its website. It told Reuters it was monitoring client accounts for suspicious transactions.

Sophos said the worm also affected Australians using the Optus network but it was unclear how many had been infected so far. One symptom of the infection is a severe reduction in battery life.

"The worm is not widespread, but it is much more serious than the first iPhone worm as it seems to try to steal information from the devices," F-Secure's chief researcher officer, Mikko Hypponen, said.

Duh's predecessor, Ikee, was created by TAFE student Ashley Towns, a prankster who admitted this month that he created the virus as an "experiment" to raise awareness of security issues related to iPhone passwords.

The virus, technically classified as a worm, replaced the iPhone's background wallpaper with a picture of '80s singer Rick Astley but did little more than that. It affected only those iPhones on the Optus network.

Paul Ducklin, Sophos's head of technology for the Asia-Pacific region, said he was certain Towns's virus had inspired the second, more malicious variant.

He questioned Towns's decision to release the source code for the Ikee virus online, saying such moves "seem to act as a spur to new variants".

"I suspect they certainly copied the idea, if not the actual code," he said.

Earlier this month Towns said he had never expected his virus to spread so far or that he would receive death threats, media interviews and job offers as a result of his experiment.

Today, Towns said he regretted ever creating the original virus and apologised if his idea inspired the new malicious version.

"It's a shame but it was going to happen either way whether I did anything or not - it was a pretty obvious security flaw," he said.

Ducklin advised all iPhone owners to change the root password on their phones from the default setting of "alpine".

Those already infected will find their root password has been changed to "ohshit".

Changing the password is not enough to remove the malware. This can be done by using iTunes to restore the device to Apple's factory firmware.

For some reason when I try to play any podcasts on my Iphone they are all sped up, sounds like chipmunks.

I tried redownloading the podcasts to my iphone, but that didnt fix it.

Normal playlists work fine.

Anyone else had this problem?

I agree with the article, but I think it's more about the general stupidity of most people than any sort of technological fault of the iPhone.

I mean I'm still yet to see a better phone. If there is one, someone show me!
