Had a massive day last friday. My systems finally all dialed in. Made an oktoberfest last friday so i can have a mini oktoberfest session in Oct. System can now handle 100Litres at about 75-80% efficnecy. heres some pics from the day...

Image
20KG's of cracked grain

Image
Hop's : Magnum Pellets for Bittering, Hallertau M Plugs for late addition
Image
My mate rook mashing in the grain
Image
pic of the mash
Image
checking the temp is stable at 66deg...well 66.3deg precisley
Image
draining first runnings into boiler. check how clear it is,
Image
start of boil - 110litres in there
Image
me adding the last lot of hop's. pretty pissed by now
Image
drained boiler. check all the hop sludge at the bottom.
Image
running it into the fermenter
Image
and some leftover wort to make a yeast starter with. how bloddy clear is this beer going to be. check the red hue to it. just magical.

I was talking to a guy from our Manila office a couple of months ago and mentioned home brewing. The next day he'd bought the equipment & started his first batch. Now there are 3 Bars in Manila selling his beer and he's called it Bedson Beer

apparently it's very similar to San Miguel

Thought I would bring this old thread back to life. Who's still brewing? How are your beers tasting. What level are you at?

I started brwewing 12 months ago and have just done my first all grain brew. It's pretty easy really. It just takes a bit of time.

Here are some great books I would suggest reading if you want to improve your existing skills or move on to advanced brewing. I recently read these 3 books from cover to cover and have learnt a hell of a lot. Everybody should own the The Complete Joy of Home Brewing. Reading this gave me the confidence to take the next step and start all grain brewing.

The Complete Joy of Home Brewing 3rd Edition by Charlie Papazian
The Home Brewers Companion by Charlie Papazian (this is basically a follow up book and covers more advanced techniques and procedures)
Radical Brewing by Randy Mosher (this covers a lot of beer history and has heaps of really interesting historical recipes)

All three of these books have heaps of really interesting recipes for both all grain brewing and malt extract brewing. The books are rather expensive ($40-$50) if you buyt them at you local home brew shop but id you jump online and order through Amazon or ebay you can get them really cheap. I got both Papazian books from Amazon for $35AUD including postage.

Grain and Grape in Yarraville does a full grain brewing demo every second sat using various equipment. It's free and you get to try beers while you watch.

Grain and Grape also sell fresh Wort kits. Basically it's an all grain wort base in barrel which is brewed at Mountain Goat brewery. These make fantastic beers and are even easier than using malt extract cans. Have squiz: http://www.grainandgrape.com.au/article ... ummary.htm They're $45 each.

Oh yeah and if you want to improve your kit can brews. Throw away the yeast sachets that come with the cans and invest a little bit $$$$ and start using Wyeast liquid yeast. It will make a big difference to your beer!

Looking forward to getting plenty of advice/tips from a resident Brewmaster Fents! I'm sure you could teach me a lot.

Oh yeah, I dont work fro Grain and Grape. I'm just a very happy customer.
Happy brewing.

we shoul;d setup a brewday at my house one day mate, ive got a 100L all grain system and we could brew whatever you want then throw it all into cubes to take home and split it.

or just shout out and come have a look at the real brewery in a factory.

PM me when you have a free day.

Awesome. Cheers. Keen as on both options. Went 50/50 in a mate with my last brew(30L batch) and doing the same thing with a work mate early Jan. I definitely like the idea of brewing with others to share the costs and have a few drinks while you brew. Will be keen to have a look at the Kooinda brewery too. Will be in touch next month sometime and we can plan a brew day.

Yep. BIAB.

This is the first one on my rig at home. All previous brews have been on my mates (3V) and Dad's (BIAB) rigs.
