PROMOTERS FORUM....

there was one of these in Melbournejungle and it worked really well (until the site folded of course)

its somewhere where promoters can post tentative dates for their upcoming parties before they have been announced. this allows everyone to sort out clashes and plan effectively BEFORE they officially announce gigs.

what does the massive think?

I reckon thats a goer.

Is it something that restricts access to just the promotors so they can shuffle stuff around and then post to the rest of the site? Or just a forum where people can go to check out 'tentative dates' and know that they shouldn't be taking them as concrete (because that's kinda sounding like the Party Thread mentioned in another thread)?

yep i thionk this is a great idea!
Because P.T.A is still fairly new, we dont want to inadvertantly step on anyones toes. This could work as a good advertising tool too maybe? :?:

I need to think about this one a bit more. Currently I'm thinking I would like to avoid creating another forum (for various reasons).

I definitely sympathise with your problem, and a new forum would probably be a great solution. But as above, creating more forums is something I'd like to avoid doing just right now.

Leave it with me and we'll see what happens. =)

wouldn't be an open forum... it would have to be one which only promoters and admin have access to. otherwise promoters would not talk freely about possible dates (trying to keep acts hush hush at times etc.)

sorry, but I think it's a stupid idea.

having a public forum (that's locked to the public) just for 'organising' your parties?

with the only positive coming from it is that you 'may' be able to see other tentative dates for parties and shift yours around. but this will hardley ever happen.

there is a small window of opportunity to book some acts while they are in Melbourne and clashes are inevitable.

the forum wouldn't be for organizing parties. its just for promoters to see when other parties are on... believe it or not its inclusion on Melbournejungle.com stopped many clashing parties and helped the scene along quite a bit.

it means that smaller promoters can see when there are windows of opportunity and it also meant that they weren't stepping on toes quite so often.

as far as big promoters, believe it or not, they don't all know each other and even if they did this is the best/easiest way for people to co-ordinate what dates things are happening.

it is a VERY healthy thing and i'm sure every promoter would agree with me on this one... Lucie? ...Claire? ...Roger?

i know it seems like a hassle but this is not a tool that any one promoter would benefit from... it is one that ALL would.

Fickussss is right, it did help last time. It help the little guys throwing on a new night, to make sure it didn't clash with an international. Sure international parties clashing can't be helped, but if its just a smaller party type gig, then the date can be set in conjunction with other parties.

OK, I've had a bit of a think about it.

I think I'm going to stick with my original decision. I did see the original suggestion to make a private forum, but again, I'm reluctant to create new forums (private or not).

I think there's a better way to solve the problem anyway.

Currently I'm building a calendar system (ala "what's on"). This calendar could easily be extended upon so that promoters could use it to post tentative dates, etc.

Normal users would see only confirmed listings, promoters would see tentative -and- confirmed listings. You will be able to click on a tentative listing to see the forum member that created it, and then PM/email them if you wish to discuss it.

What do you guys think about this?

i found the system on melbourne jungle very useful.

i posted all the tentative agent mad dates on it and frequently checked other promoters dates to schedule ours around...

there is one case specifically for one of our events that was moved after finding a conflicting gig listed that we otherwise wouldn't have known about....

100% I would NOT put these on a calendar however that could be veiwed by the public. I would use one that only promoters could see...

There was some security knowing that only certain people had access to look at it and those people were also putting their dates out there as well so it kind of felt like there was a code of ethics people were adhering to by veiwing / posting there...

I'd love it if one was created on MB - but I totally understand it it isn't something that Lucas feels MC should be responsible for / administering....

That's what I reckon anyway!

Yep. Only a select few would be able to see the tentative calendar listings.

It -could- be a completely seperate instance of the calendar system if that would make you guys feel better/safer.

Alternatively it could be combined with the public calendar so that you could see tentative and confirmed listings together. (Obviously, the tentative listings would be hidden from everyone except those flagged as promoters).

OK, I'm going to set a deadline for people to give their feedback on this.

Say, 5pm tomorrow (Thursday).

It will affect the calendar development process so the sooner I account for it the better.

Calander sounds good, so does the private forum, but I think we have enough going on already... a private calander may be the way to go.

just with some organisation we've done so far in regards to a few things we've planned for this year, we're small and poor & we can't afford to come up against internationals and the like so we managed to get in contact with most other dnb promoters to find out whether they had anything planned in coming months and alls well that ends wellish for now. however it would have been heaps sweet to be able to do all that stuff via the net which would have been heaps more accessible & convienient. it's possible convienience isn't a good enough reason to create another forum if it = $$$, i can't think of a way to sell it that anyone hasn't mentioned already but a meeting point for all promoters to get in touch and avoid clashes could prove immeasurably handy.

I reckon that's a great idea Lucas, especially if its hooking into the phpBB user database - I think I remember seeing a calendar thing with phpBB, or that might have been VBulletin, can't remember.

Either way, I like the idea of less forums - less clutter, less moderation ... and the calender keeps the site dynamic and interesting.

Can this be given any more thought? As it has been stated previously before, this system worked very effeciently on Melbourne Jungle, it would be very appreciated if Melbourne Beats could provide such a resource.

Sorry. Busy busy.

OK. The calendar is going to take a little while longer. I'm happy to set up a private forum in the mean time.

I need a list of people that should have access to this forum.

If someone would be kind enough to compile the list, pm it to me and I'll make it happen.

A little bit, Lucas just needs a holiday ;)

Last time we spoke about it Lucas said he didn't receive a list of members who would have access to the promoters forum.

If someone could collect these names and email them to the man, then we should be ready to rock.
