Melbourne Central Promo Gig (Friday Lunchtime)

Posted: Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:29 pm

Thread to track status of promo gig on Friday, lunchtime @ Melbourne Central. Potentially I'll be taking a bag of records to Melbourne Central and doing a gig during the lunch hour to promote Beat Aid.

This thread is mainly for BRB and great_magnet, but if it goes ahead we'll want some volunteers to helps us hand out flyers.

BRB & GM, any word on weather we can get some decks down there?

Hey Lucas,

At this stage all is confirmed for 1pm outside the Shot Tower in the LaTrobe St building.

I have spoken to Glenn and we need to confirm the following:

Decks
Mixer
Sound (speakers)
Power cable
Promo people to hand out flyers

A table will be supplied on the day. I have extremely limited net access so msg me if you need to talk.

Thanks

Nik

Nik (panNik) has kindly lent us his decks for the day (he trusts Lucas will look after them) but we will need a mixer, speakers etc

I have the decks at my house, might have to see if Lynt will be kind enough to lend us his mixer :D

GM, do they have speakers etc at Melb Central??

Unfortunately not brb, we're gonna have to source them elsewhere - sorry for the late notice, to be honest I didn't even consider it until this afternoon...

I don't actually know anyone with a PA

can anyone help out with this??

I'm sure if you do a quick ring around to mobile PA places, they should be able to help you out (they usually operate until a little later in the day too ... like, early evening) - you may have to pay, or you may get it discounted ... or even free (crosses fingers).

If you'd care to do the honors? I'm really running out of time today.

Otherwise I we might have to ditch this idea. As wicked as it is.

FYI. We are basically trying to do this whole thing with next to no expenses, so free (or very close to it) would be the only option in my opinion.

looks like it could be DJ Marcel Marceua playing this gig

dex, mixer, but no sound

anyone know the names of a PA hire company? I think I've exhausted my "can I have this for free" speel over the last week, but I'll give it a go

OK.

Just confirmed with my boss. I'm only able to take enough time off work to basically drive to Melb Central, play records, and drive back. Can't really be doing missions to the other side of town.

I know this is not very useful, but it's the best that I could do. =(

OK.

Lynty said he could supply the mixer, and he'll even bring some records as well.

So, last issue seems to be actually getting all the gear to Melb Central. If anyone is able to do a bit of running around (seems like we need the decks and speakers to be picked up) now's the time to speak up. I'm not sure where the speakers are located, trying to find out now.

let me know where and I may be able to do some running around :)

(did we find out how big the speakers are? will they fit in a commodore or are we talking h00ge?)

Just got a message back from Rach.

Apparently Nick is picking up the speakers/decks from BRB and bringing them in. Lynty is bringing his mixer. So it sounds like it's all sorted.

Now we just need some volunteers for handing out flyers.

what are the rough times for this?

given my current state i've conceded to the fact that i'm not going to be able to survive the whole day. thus i can't really take a lunch break...will try and make it down after about 3 if things are still going?

It's in front of the Shot Tower in the main bit of the Melb Central complex.

we're gonna set up the decks in that hot air balloon and rain flyers down on people from above.

We'll also have the finished CD's there so hopefully we'll sell some today

Not sure if it'll be those (JBL EONs).

If not, it'll be a pair of 15 and horn boxes with an amp. Not sure of the power rating but I assume you don't need it to be too loud anyways. They sound fine.

seeing as it's in melb central, how about 'we want your soul'?

and drop the bass out of it so it sounds like it's coming from the clock radio speakers in the ceilings.

I don't drive to the city very often.

Does anyone have any good parking tips for me? Would like avoid paying $17 per hour.

fed[] is cheap, but a bit far to central.
probably up around rmit- to top of swanston there are some cheaper spots.

if you have a look around the Russel and Latrobe st corners you should find some cheaper parking, there are usually a few vacant spots....
