Stanford seem to be onto something with Vector Magic.
It's totally not my bag maths-wise, but generating continuous approximations for discrete data sets seems like it might be fairly transferrable across media
Very interesting post - yep that's *exactly* what I'm describing (albeit fairly poorly)! I'd love to see some audio engineer/programmer geek try to tackle this... (who isn't me because my math ain't what it used to be).
Anyone know where I can get a cheap one? Best I can find is about $150 from the States.

Hmm, I know someone who is trying to get things happening between the maths and computer music programs at UC San Diego. Will see what I can do...
Music kinda shitty and not really thought out, but it was cool to explore different controlling possibilities. It's pretty sweet to be able to switch between very different control types on the one interface, also playing with the monome patterns while having full acces to scene launching, faders and knobs etc. Might use monome style stuff for maybe the odd precusive or glitchy background bit. Or learn to have pattern sequencing control over CC's, that could be really cool.

had a lot of issues actually.
you got problems with copying and pasting and adjusting regions yet?
mine was just terminating from all basic stuff, i am on a mac, but have had issues generally and specifically with AU and VST, mostly sorted now...
if you own it contact tech support and they should sort you out, if not wait for 8.2 and stop bitching coz its free.

geez thats pretty bad innit. isn't the whole point of a daw so you can run VST's? I can't imagine running the thing stock standard with no 3rd party!

so, should one look at investing in Ableton 7 instead?

hmmm it was specific ones that it had a problem with, one i upgraded and it sorted and there was problems with AU that required you to make a text file with a wee bit of code and it was all good, now everything seems ok, i know others have had a lot less fuck ups than i have... but yeh hurrrrry the fuck up with 8.2

RK - generally just crashing frequently when certain plugins are running.
Altiverb will run, it just wont let me use automation presets it seems. Kinda renders it useless for what I was using it for but i'll live. (anyone know any cheap or free convulsion verbs?)
Also certain Waves plugins seem to be a bit bad; S1-imager, for example, crashes live immediately upon loading everytime.
TBH I'm like most of lives native thingies though.

yeah 8.11 crashes a lot with certain audio units
its really not liking any of the TAL ones
I find it can be less likley to crash if you dont add a plugin while its playing
atm i'm stopping, saving add audio unit - beach ball - fingers crossed
apparently the beta upgrade from 8.11 is more stable I just havent got around to installing it
was getting syntax errors at one point doing basic renders and things but they have seemed to have stopped

Yeah had a few problems with a few specific waves plugs but everything else seems fine, apart from Omnisphere skitzing a bit but update of that seems to have sorted it. All other AU plugs are thus far spasm free. I'm running on a spanking new iMac so trying not to install a million plugs that I will probably never use - keep it a bit leaner and bit more legal.

seems to have gone back to not copy and pasting.
do audio edits without being able to copy and paste is quite a challenge

Why do I have fun with Ableton just making music?
