Post by ghostsoul »

Hi people I'm running windows 7 32 bit and I'm using ableton suite 8 and reason 4 for audio production. Ilooking to upgrade my system to 64 bit. Does anyone know wether ableton suite 8 and reason 4 will run ona 64 bit machine? I've been trying to get a definative answer on this and no one seems to know.

I just got a new computer... wondering whether I should install 32bit or 64bit :?:

The mobo has a max capacity of 4GB Ram, so going to 64bit might be overkill as 4GB is the ram limit of 32bit systems anyway.

hmmmmmm

absolutely, you want bare bits.

Stretch for 65 bits if you can.

does seems odd that a mobo that can handle 64 bit processing is limited at 4 gig though?

bare bits!

nah, seriously... should I install 64bit or not? is it going to be needed in the near future? Thus having to eventually do it anyway.

EDIT:

It's not that new, I got it second hand... it's a C2Duo 3GHz,,, defo works with 64bit coz the dude I bought it off was running 64bit Win7 and 64bit OSX on it.

^ isn't 32bit XP limited at 3gb of ram that it can use?
might be worth installing 64bit to use the extra 1gb.

i'm noticing in 32bit ableton i'm using all my 2gb of ram in no time now when producing and racking up heaps of channels with FX, plugins etc...
time to upgrade to an i7 and win7 64....

I think it's only a theoretical 4GB limit, realistically it's more like 3GB

yeah, but then realistically you'd still get more available ram using 64bit

Even so, you would need a specially compiled version of ableton that would enable you to use more than the 2gb per process limit on any version of windows - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... _windows_7
