Anyone service Technics 1200's?

Posted: Tue Jul 05, 2005 10:31 pm

My 1200 is f***ed, slowing down when you go above 0% pitch then, speeding up again, the pop up light is blown, and the whole is pretty dirty old and crappy, I'm in need of someone who can fix it cheap or I'm gonna sell it and get a new one.

I run a business, servicing 1200's and other DJ gear.

The problem with your Pitch is the 0 point is calibrated by the Quartz lock. This is always 0, but when the 0 on the Pitch is out you get two 0's on your pitch. This can be fixed, no need to buy a new pitch control or anything, just requires pulling the whole thing apart and adjusting some things.

Your Cue light (The pop up light) is a constant problem I deal with. I suggest to people to get rid of the filament bulb and replace it with an LED. These will never blow again. I also offer to replace them with Blue, Orange, Green or Red LED's. The same goes for 33/45 buttons, the On Light Strobe, and the Quartz Lock LED.

I also repaint 1200's, in whatever color you like, in a Baked Enamel so is very strong, won't just scratch off like paint from a spray can. It looks awesome and will make all ya mates jealous.

I have a package if you are interested of Full Service, Clean, Pitch Adjustment, Brake Adjustment, Tonearm Balance, Repaint any color you want with Baked Enamel and replace all LEDS to any color you want for $250. A weeks turnaround and it back better than new.

Anyway if you just want the service I'm also offering 20% off first service, which includes Clean, Lube, Tonearm Balance and replace Cue Light from $66 to $55inc GST.

Give me a call on 0427 268 724
I'm in East Brunswick, Melbourne

Hey Samurai thats sounds awesome, I thought that sh#t would cost as much as a new turntable. If you can do all of that for $250 I am in. Do I need to do anything for it before, clean it up at all? Take anything off? Do you need the stylus and slipmat? What colors can I get?

No worries Petee,

Now you don't need to do anything for it, you hand it to me in watever condition andI will get it back to you better than new.

Take whatever you want off it. I don't need stylus, slipmat, etc. If you can leave the dust cover that would be better for transport.

As for colors, anything you want. Also in Matte, Glossy, Pearl, etc. Pretty much anything goes. Also if you just want me to do all the electronics and you want to get a graphic artist to do some crazy design on it thats also cool, will also reduce costs alot.

I am in the process of repainting one electric Blue, with all blue LEDS, but with a red Quartz Lock LED, will have it by Friday if you want to check it out first and see what you think before I send it to the customer.

Just note, the technics Warranty will be void on new decks with any modifications. Servicing is fine.

Give me a buz tomorrow and we'll sort it all out.

how much to replace a tonearm? the absolute antiskate pin has dug into the bearing through some abuse.

Just a quick question...

I've mucked around with mine myself before and after a little bit i felt really buzzed, like there was electricity going through my body and it stayed in there for like a day. What is this and how do you stop this from happening? And it was unplugged from the wall.

Aspekt: Replacing a tonearm is quite expensive, with part and labor your looking the best part of $200. From what your saying its kinda stuffed, but should be repairable. It might come down to a replace, but if you want to try and see if it can be done cheaper bring it over and I'll see what I can do, if not then we can replace it and I won't charge you for the initial viewing. Give me a call, I'm doing a few this weekend, plus could show you the full modifed Metalic Blue one I'm working on. My number is 042-SAMURAI or 0427 268 724

Now Focus, what your saying is kinda freaking me out, you were shocked for a day from an unplugged turntable, thats not good, not good at all.

Theres not alot I can say about this one without looking at it. If you'd like me to look at it, I'm offering 20% off labor for first service at the moment.

Give me a call if your interested, phone number above.

250 per deck?

Price was wrong sorry guys, check out these prices

Posted: Thu Jul 07, 2005 1:13 pm
by Samurai
Sorry all its $170 for a single. For a pair $300, I had been looking at the wrong pricelist. But this is only valid till the end of August.

I'll match the pitch controls between the two aswell.

So that would be,

Repaint whatever color
New LED's whatever color
Brake adjust
Pitch matching
Tonearm adjust
Clean and service.

What colors would you want?

Tonearm

Aspekt

I have found a place that sell replacement tonearms for half the price of my normal guy.

So it would probably be about $125 inc GST for a replacement and labor.

They are on Backorder though so couldn't tell you when they'll be in.

that's more what i was thinking seeing as I can get the tonearms for $90 but as you said they're a couple of weeks away. If only i could just replace the bearing =(

Where abouts are you based Aspekt?

If local I could come around and have a quick look and let you know what is possible. Hope fully we can fix the problem cheaper than full replacement.

I also forgot I'm offering 20% off labor for first service, so if we figure out what neds to be done we can talk price then.

Samurai-san! the little screw that holds my target light cover on is burred and needs to be drilled out or the whole assembly needs replacing! (i would prefer the first as it would cost less)

does a Samurai such as your self posses the nimpo required to preform such delicate and precise movements or should i seek ninja AV?

Saintberry,

too easy, I'm available this avo or any time tomorrow.

Shouldn't take me too long at all.

Give me a call when you to drop it around. I'm in east brunswick.

what do you think would be the best bet??? drill it out or replace the whole target light unit??? and how much for either?

the screw is really fucking stuck in there. also it would prob be easier if i just hacked the light out of the circuit and brought it round to yours rather than the whole deck. i can solder it back in. yo cool with that? just wanna gauge on cost cos if its really expensive i wont bother just yet, but would like to get it sorted.

If you dont respond to this ill give you a buzz tomorrow :)

Oh geez no need to butcher it, if you can bring it around I'll have a look at it, depending how stripped it is,I should be able to get it out and put a new one in pretty quickly and easily. If its possible, I'll charge ya ten bucks. If not we'll figur out a price on other possibilities.

Where abouts are you?

That's fukin sic bro. Werd to Samuri. You aren't thinkin bout opening a fanchise in Brisbane are you? Can we please have some shots of more custom designs. When will the Nice Produce Boys have a custom 1200???

Well, no, I do call Melbourne Home, but I'll check what kind of price I can get on shipping of decks to and from Brisbane and other areas and maybe something could be worked out.

I unfortunately only took photos of this mod, and the rest have gone back to customers.

Next ones I do will send. There might be a job coming up doing 90.7 SYN FM's two studios worth of decks in full metallic Red to match their logo colors. Which will be an awesome sight I reckon.

Also where bouts do you get your logo printed onto slipmats? I'm assuming that its screen printed.

Haha caught out, that was actually done in photoshop, I am trying to find a place aswell so let me know when you do and vice versa.

You just need to be careful that it is printed correctly or will affect the slip factor and may rub off onto your records.

Any color pretty much. Two tone, pearl, gloss, matte, mettalic, gold flecks. You can't really see it in the pictures but it is actually a pearl finish, I'm a technician not a photographer. javascript:emoticon('')

if you want custom slipmats head to www.slikmats.com

dont get anyothers. these are the one and only. i even rate them over the ISP "butter rugs" and DJ Gutters "sewer slimes" for skratching. ive tired them all and sewer slimes and slikmats have the best feel...

just scope the skratchworx review on them http://skratchworx.com/reviews/slikmatsreview1.html

Dear Doctor Samurai,

Problem
One of my two 1200's (lets name it turntable A) sounds a bit muted and the output vol is lower... if i'm playing something on turntable B, in order for turntable A to sound remotely the same as turntable B, its vol levels would have to peak at least a half time more than turntable B. It's not the vinyl pressing for sure. This muted sounds from turntable A happens infrequently.

Can replacing the RCA cables and resoldering new ones fix it?

Annoyed Junglist,

Do this for me,

Take each deck with the same parameters ie, same record, same cartridge, same input to mixer, then play the same section of the track and see if the levels are different on the LED VU meter on your mixer.

If they are still different then it has to do with your deck. If no difference then take each of those components and test if it is any of them. Also check if you are getting signel from both left and right from the deck.

When you have pin pointed where the issue is coming from you can give me a call on 0427 268 724 and we'll see if its something I can talk you through or maybe bring it in to me.

Regards
