Melbourne Beats Monthly Mixathon :: Dec :: Obliveus

Post by lynt »

Lucas and I randomly selected the next monthly mixologist last night at the blackcat and the first name we pulled out was Lucas. Obviously realising we couldn't make Lucas write 8 more original tracks (joking), we pulled another name out and it was non-other than Melbourne's Mr Nice Guy OB1

Big ups Eric, tear it!

Track List
01 - Mr. Big Stuff - Heavy D & The Boyz
02 - Dwyck - Gangstarr
03 - Murder She Wrote - Chaka Demus & Pliers
04 - Phenomenon One - Freestylers
05 - Cut Chemist Suite - Ozomatli
06 - Down On The Corner - Creedence Clearwater Revival
07 - Rocksteady - Fdel
08 - Aint It Funky - Krafty Kuts (Fort Knox Five Remix)
09 - Rockit - Herbie Hancock
10 - Now I’m Living For Me - Skeewiff (For Knox Five Remix)
11 - Wont Talk About It - Beats International
12 - Three Piece Suite - Skeewiff
13 - Ill Type Sound - Krafty Kuts
14 - B-Boy Stance - Freestylers
15 - Raise It Up - Kitachi
16 - Funky Kingston - Toots & The Maytals (Remix Unknown)
17 - Forget It - Cut & Paste
18 - Unknown - Bassbin Twins
19 - Groovy Train - The Farm
20 - Sandwhiches - Detroit Grand Pubas (Krafty Kuts Remix)
21 - Freak & Hustle - Freakazoids
22 - The Real Funk - Infekto (Boogie Army Remix)
23 - Purple Pussy - Unknown
24 - Warning - Freestylers (Soul Hooligan Mix)
25 - Fiesta Latina - Greg Packer
26 - Music Is Everything - High Contrast

Eric Obliveus December Mix now online!

OH FUK YEAH! bring that flavour!

Diversity of this thing so far is going to be awsome, from Lucas' too smooth atmosphere DnB stylee, to Nik's darkness and now Eric's cut'em'up funk break beat mash. Nice.

Went out to the back room last night and attempted to put my records back in order after the craziness that was Revolver this past weekend. Pulled out close to a crate of what I want to put on there...bit of everything really:

Krafty
Skeewiff
Fort Knox Five
Ozomatli
Naughty By Nature
Breakestra
Freestylers (obviously)
High Contrast
Simon Bassline Smith
Makoto
Prince
Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Farm
Infekto
James Brown
Nookie
Pimp Juice
Cypress Hill
Digital Underground
Toots & The Maytals
El Magnifico
Kitachi
Cut & Paste
Lyrics Born
etc, etc, etc

We'll see if I can fit it all together...

Hey Lucas, maybe you could add a little audio tab up the top left of the forum, right next to 'WhatsOn' or something, and have it link to the melb beats mix database???

I wish. I'm getting atleast an 80 minute CD to burn the set onto. Are there any bigger? That might take up too much of the MB space though. Lucas???

All over the place: London - Czech - Austria- Italy - Switzerland - Spain - France - Germany - New York - Toronto - Vancouver - Whistler - down west coast - home. Obviously a whole lot of places in between, have only really planned up to getting to spain so far, the rest will be worked out on the way.

Tell me when yer heading down the west coast of the US (unless yer not going down that far) as I can hook you up with some good people around the SF area. Actually, got a good friend in Vancouver, too. Manages a pub, I think.

That would be wicked! Haven't really worked out what we'll be doing down the west coast, but have heard lots of good things about SF. I'll try and get down to the Smith St gig tonight, but might get held up in the city - also not trying to stay out too late at the moment, trying to conserve money before I head away  .

Marcus, all good. Maybe I'll see ya tonight, if not I'll make you a list of "must see/do" when you get to SF and PM it to ya.

Peeps, I need some info...

Does anyone know if they make CDR's that have more than 80 minutes on them?

Just put together a set for this, had to pull out about 6 tracks I didn't want to, and I'm still coming in at almost 90 minutes. I know I gotta give the set to Lucas or Lynt on CD. Maybe 90 minutes is too long, I dont know. I'll PM one of them right now.

Thanks.

Tried really hard to fit everything in, but 80 minutes just isnt enough time. Went out and timed it again and after discarding 3 more tracks I love, I managed to get it just under 80 minutes...just. Going out tonight to record it - FINGERS CROSSED! I did manage to fit my 3 all-time favorite d'n'b tracks in at the end...ROCK ON!!!
Hope peeps like it.

wow - maybe you could make an out takes mix as well with all the tunes that had to be cut out fo the first one, no doubt you could find extra tunes to make a complete mix.

That's actually not a bad idea. Got more than enough for another mix. But I'm way too busy with work commitments this week to even look at my vinyl. Maybe next week...oops, I'm on camp next week. Maybe later...

Why don't you just burn an extra long mp3 file onto the disc instead of buring it as a CD... or you could burn it onto a DVD instead

I've actually burned it as an MP3, but I thought people would rather have the better sound quality. I'm giving 2 versions to Lynt tomorrow, one .wav and one .mp3 and letting them decide which one they want to use.

I had to shorten the .wav one down a bit to fit on the CD.

All this shop talk is making me want to start working at Tandy.

yeah, but it's gotta be mp3 for the download anyway..... it makes no difference if it was originally on a CD or not, it's gotta get compressed sometime :?

I didn't wanna bore ya, just wanted to hear the mix exactly as you'd want it.... and as LONG as you'd want it :)

I thought the MP3 version sounded quieter than the .wav version, that's why I'm giving both versions to the boys and letting them decide. If the .mp3 one sounds OK to them, we're sweeeeeeeet. I didn't think about the whole compression thing though...so I guess it doesn't matter if I give them a .wav version or not cuz it'll get compressed anyways. Is that right? I'm hopeless with all this stuff, that's why I'm still playing vinyl recordings.
