Australia Day! (how do YOU do it?)

Post by ukime »

Well ... it's one of the days that we all wait for! An excuse to take the day off work, to wake up at midday (okay, so that's not quite that unusual), drink as much beer as Australianly as possibly (which means lots) and eat many, many shrimps and big rump steaks off the Barbie.

Well, that's usually how I try to spend it - it used to be going off to bigger events such as the Big Day Out (my first one was the BDO before they cancelled it for a year down in Melbourne, then it came back) ... caught one of the last performances by Soundgarden ... you shoulda seen the sea of lighters that came out for Black Hole Sun!

Tomorrow = beer, sun, bbq. And, in Melbourne, HEAT. w00t for 37! Looks like it'll be Australia Day down tha local beach! Any ideas for kickin' back? Anythin you do religiously each year? Or is it always something different?

I normally spend Oz Day riding my kangaroo around the billabong dodging dropbears, cow-eating spiders and bunyips.

Happy Survival Day

Post by Lephrenic »

This year I choose to celebrate Australia Day by....

Hmmmmm...

I could think of places to go and then remember they're closed for the day.

I could pass the time whinging about having unpaid holidays in my casual job.

I could complain about the political landscape and how everything I thought was good about this country is being destroyed.

Maybe I'll spare a moment for feelings of white middle class guilt for the suffering of our indigenous people (who give it the much better name of 'Survival Day'). Then remind myself I've done nothing to help.

Who knows, perhaps I might realise how negative I can be, resolve to spread love to all people and be the best human being I can be.

But more than likely I'll sleep in for the day and go back to work on Thursday. Happy Survival Day, everyone.

I guess they probably found it too negative for people to want to go near it. After all, we want to encourage reconciliation rather than pile on the shame. Survival is the main issue anyway.

Woke up after the equivalent of about 2 hours sleep. Prepaired for interview with dnb uberstar. Failed to receive contact details for said uberstar till about an hour after I was supposed to call him. Finally ended up talking to really nice, articular uberstar for 40min or so. Nice. Then went and ate meat and drank beer on median strip outside mate's house. Then went into town, got more drnk and talked shit to friend, alienated said friend with more drunken bullshit. Came home. Went to bed.

Excellent day.
