iLove iRiver geek thread

Post by dengelman »

So I finally got an iRiver h340 and now my life is complete! :smt020:
Now have the arduous task of transferring hundreds of hours of music across to take with me O-S.

Just wondering how others are organising their music.
I was thinking something like:

Albums:
Root>A-F>Artist>Album>00 Track (remix).xxx
Eg: S-Z>Underworld>Everything, Everything> 03 Push Upstairs.mp3

Compilations:
Roots>Compliations>Title Artist>00 Artist Track (remix).xxx
Eg: Compilations>Y4K Uberzone>10 Koma & Bones-Take Me Back (BLIM mix).mp3

Mixes/Sets
Root>Mixes>Artist Mix.xxx
Eg: Mixes>NAPT Platinum mix Part 2.mp3

Random/Various (for Artists <5 tracks)
Root>Various>Genre>Artist – Track (remix).xxx
Eg: Various>Breaks>Ed209 – Infectious(Ils mix)

Not sure whether to go all at 192kbps or VBR
Any tips or advise from those with experience much appreciated.

i used to have a h140, but it was way too big and heavy, as well as never mastering actual gapless playback, so I swapped it for my iaudio. which has since rapidly disintegrated. and ipod doesn't do ogg vorbis.

so i'm pretty down on all that right now. pining for the days of my mz-r900. best md evar.

I'm very, very bitter. And trying to justify spending another $500 to buy another one...

Incidentially, little kids in general scare me. They know they can do anything they want and you can't do shit. Little fuckers.

H340's are sick, they got video playback, i got heaps of family guy and south park episodes. And you can watch porn anywhere haha.

line in is good, goes up to 320 and can change it if you want. Plus its got a mic built in which is very sensitive.

I know its not like you can chase em down and beat the shit out of them. What kind of world do we live in where you cant give some little kids a lift without em stealin from ya? Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say `nee' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.

funny. its a serious question, because the US H10 series iRivers seem only compatible with winXP, which is a fucking joke.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies and sharing the iRiver love… :smt007

Seems like most ppl are organising via Genre. For me this just spells Headache Central.
For example: if I have separate DNB and Breaks folders, does this mean I put Aquasky in one and Aquasky vs Masterbalster in the other?
And would Funny Break go with my Orbital shit and Funny Break(Plumps remix) in the Breaks folder? And what about genre defining groups such as Chemical Bros?
It’s making me anxious just thinking about it… :smt119
Sometimes genres suck ass.

How do (less anal-type people) get around these problems and keep their players organised enough to find shit?

Almac: Thanks. Yeah I’ve seen misticriver.net. Pretty intense geeking on there!

Fents: iRiver h340 retailing for about $540 at JB. Was $499 last week for the new-year sale and they gave it to me at that price, so I’m sure they’d do the same for you. Decided not worth internet/warantee hassles for $20…

Mellogs: Don’t bother with 1.30e. From what I can see it’s just 1.29 WITHOUT video but with the EU-enforced noise restrictions. See misticriver.net for more geeked up opinions on the subject

Encode it at 192kbps, that should only take up about 112mb. :)

and its quality sound...

You try turning it off when not in use? Check the Auto Power-Off setting as well.
