I'm getting Quinn to write me a recipe book of all my fave dishes he's cooked me over the years, before he leaves to go o/s.

the dude has skills
that's a great idea.

a friend of mine did that as a christmas gift last year. you know my mate from brissy seja? she made these recipe books and hand made these beautiful embroidered covered and wrote her favourite recipes in the first half and left the second half blank for you to add your own...

lovely gift!

we have one of the magnet strips with all our global knives on it and they're pretty weighty. as long as you screw it in securely and get a good quality one that's quite wide and the magnet strength is high i reckon it'd be fine....

Not sure if it is a cleaver, but it is just like the one Iron Chef Chinese Chen Kenichi uses. I use them for everything now. They rock! :)

Next is to find one of those massive round chopping blocks. Then I can really get chinese chopping in my kitchen!

love the smoothies! been really into vanilla milkshakes with a bit of cinnamon and netmeg too recently. mmmmmmmmmmm

hey brb. i was up in south melb again the other day and went into chef's hat to look at pots and pans. even with the sale and most things at about 50% off it'll still be costing me over $1k for the basic set up that i'd need....

think i may wait a lil longer til i make that investment. :( :?

elysium: they have global knifes and other brands too at around 50% off. not just for the sets but for individual knives too. if you're still looking at buying some i'd get down there and check it out ;)

roughly:

skillet - $130
big pot for soup etc $180
mid sized pot $130
small pot $80
wok $180
large fry pan $150
small fry pan $100
=$950

(that's from memory of what the reduced prices were roughly for the scanpan titanium series)

and that's just the basics! i would really want a few other special things....

:? :(

We have crepe parties for breakfast when I want to spoil RB :D
Our fillings are usually the basic ones... cheese, nutella, jam & cream, orange/lemon with sugar. Served up with some sparkling wine is the best!

now this is some quality food

In a May dispatch from Atlanta on Southerners' notoriously unnutritious, fat-laden cuisine, a Chicago Tribune reporter watered readers' mouths with descriptions of the "hamdog" and the "Luther" (prized dishes of Mulligan's restaurant in Decatur, Ga.), which are, respectively, "a half-pound of hamburger meat wrapped around a hot dog, which is deep-fried and served on a hoagie topped with chili, bacon and a fried egg," and "a half-pound burger served with bacon and cheese on a Krispy Kreme doughnut." The 11 states from Washington, D.C., to Florida, west to Texas, have the nation's highest mortality rate from strokes, but, said a University of Mississippi professor, "Food is a strong emblem of identity for Southerners," uniquely shared across racial lines. [Chicago Tribune, 5-16-06]
