OFF BEAT @ Workshop, Sunday 7 Jan: Trooper/TimmyG/RK/2Rite

Post by Lephrenic »

The latest Off Beat strikes Workshop after a fulfilling holiday season with some added excitement and different mechanical energies.

Trooper and Sea rock up to play all new downtempo sets immediately after returning from an 11 day Byron Bay adventure, and we have some new faces in the mix for 2007.

The lineup:

4pm - Lephrenic (IDM, downtempo, atmospheric dnb)
6pm - 2Rite (also known as Biggie: trip-hop, downtempo)
7:15pm - RK (dubstep, drum & bass)
8:30pm - Timmy G (atmospheric dnb)
9:45pm - Trooper (downtempo, instrumental hip-hop)
11pm - Sea (whatever he finds on the trip, salsa, swing, IDM, crap)

The venue is Workshop (413 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, A'Beckett Street entrance). Free entry... BBQ... excellent drinks and a large outdoor garden patio.

Could there be a better way to wind down the first weekend of the new year? Probably... but you should come here anyway.

I'm checking in for the first time since leaving for the byron bay road trip. It's been a most extraordinary time, great weather, super people, and the musical soundtrack to the adventure has been pristine.

Currently at a friend's retreat in the middle of nowhere, catching up on the 2000+ emails I've missed so that I'm not overwhelmed/flooded/killed upon my return.

OFF BEAT this sunday will be good... come one, come all. The format will change a bit in the future but the music will always remain solid.

Thanks Lephrenic for manning the fort while I'm off enjoying sunshine, waves and attractive good times.

Thanks so much to everyone who came down. I had a ball. Nick, 2Rite, Timmy, your sets were all fantastic. I can't wait to hear the recording.

Did Sea do the recording?? I'd be happy to get a copy, if that's kosher with everyone who played of course :D

Workshop has a PC behind the bar that's setup to record from the dj booth. Sea will post the sets once he's copied the files to his computer and converted them.

Keen to hear them again. There really was some great music played today.

Shit, well we rocked up closer to 9pm in a bit of a daze. It was great!!! Such a good night.

The music was splendid. Excellent to see RK dropping some of his own shit. I missed Lephrenic and 2Rite's sets, thank goodness for the recording.

Trooper played a mean set of downtempo hits. He and I chatted the whole road trip about possible tracks to play for this night.

My set was alrite, not as solid as the last one as I didn't have rehearsal time... and it was weird closing the night up when people are starting to leave, the bar is packed up, etc.

TimmyG stole the show! Fuck... much needed, and I hope future off beats see more of that. Well done man.

Thanks to the large American contingent and for all the friends who braved the frigid 18 degree cold to welcome us home.

A good night, audio and pics to come, and the next off beat is Sunday February 3rd.

more soon...
