Thursday Jan 3rd 2008
Having studied jazz in school and with Harold McKinney while growing up in Detroit, Joseph Amp Fiddler began his career in popular music when he went on tour with the group Enchantment. Later, in the mid 80's, after joining George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, he toured worldwide with the group and extensively worked as keyboard player and co-producer in studio recordings. He also performed with Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Prince, Seal and Maxwell. Amp produced his own album, Mr. Fiddler "With Respect" on Elektra in 1990.
More recently, he has released various singles for UK Genuine label and has been working with Carl Craig and Planet-e's various projects (Detroit Experiment, Moodymann, John Arnold, Recloose ...).
The release of the debut album, 'Waltz Of A Ghetto Fly' (2004) received crictical acclaim; "Trust me people, this is essential listening" - HHC, Detroit. He has supported this with brilliant shows with his live band at gigs and festivals. And he seems to be a really nice and modest bloke too; nice quote "Conversation and not segregation needs to be the focus for people to have an understanding of each other and look at situations unconditionally". Right On!
