Was pathetically intimidated by rain so didn't make it...

Rain give Brain pain :(

But looking forward to next week like crazy. I've decided to play only my favorite songs of all time so have managed to whittle it down to about a 1500 hour set.

Set times?

That's a bummer. The Creative Bent folks wanted to have their get together there but were put off by the comedian doing his show. Is he funny?

Anyways, I've got some people coming down with me so should be a big one!

he made me mildly chuckle once or twice, so I dunno. I find spontaneous real life humour and message board dramas more amusing than rehearsed, look-at-me-on-stage stand up.

should be a good one indeed

Should be a wang dang doodle all night long.

P.S. there is a fucking cyclone blowing out there!

We're pleased to welcome Scattermish to Off Beat. He's played with Deltoid in the past but this is his first solo crack at an Off Beat set.

The blurb:

Off Beat welcomes back Scattermish for another dose of multifarious beats and sounds. Warning: Scattermish's sets have been known to encourage bumping and grinding, which could possibly be a first for Off Beat but is encouraged nonetheless.

9:00 SEA (a.k.a. Universal Fail)
10:00 SCATTERMISH (Intergalactic Beat Emperor)
11:30 LEPHRENIC (The World Is Not Enough)

Horse Bazaar - 397 Little Lonsdale St

Free entry as usual, with the bar serving fine cocktails for the adventurous and $3.50 pots for the rest of us.

I recommend the cocktails though.

With no hellbound comedians cramping our style this week, we've assembled a stellar line-up that ought to get you racing for the tram into town. The couch can wait.

First up, scratch master DJ Deltoid returns to Off Beat with a hard drive full of beats and bass. Deltoid frequently traverses many styles, from dubstep to ghettotech, baile funk to bad ass hip hop.

We also welcome Deviant for his Off Beat debut. Aside from being one of Melbourne's hardest working breaks DJs, Deviant has an ear for music of many more styles than most would know. Can he play bass and DJ at the same time? Probably not. So we'll let him just do what's best.

8:00 - DELTOID (not for the player haters)
9:30 - DEVIANT (play some breaks kharnt)
11:00 LEPHRENIC (still loves you in the awning)

Sea will be back, we promise.

Wow. Dodgy needles aside, that was an awesome set, Dan.

Twitter crew packed it out, Deltoid scratched it up, Dan brockin out the dubstep and blippy breaks. Kings Of Power 4 Billion % on the projectors had so many people's jaws dropping. All in all, a great night.

But I'll take Twitter crew over Disney costumed first years any day.

Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts is a terrific ambient album... I downloaded the whole thing on mp3, like it so much I've bought the CD. Some great moments that could chop in and out of our off beat sets.

good work Reznor.

10kfreemen is the alias of Tom Gilmore, an Australian chiptune artist. Tom began making Game Boy music in early 2007 with very little exposure to the world of chiptune. His early minimalistic style developed with his exposure and increased involvement with the scene, along with the development of a live show to express himself to new audiences and expose a new genre of music to an unaware Sydney, Australia.

DOT.AY ( BRIS )
Alex Yabsley aka Dot.AY has long been in search of a musical form that can be highly experimental and creatively satisfying whilst being accessible and dance friendly, he believes Chiptunes are what he was born to make. The key component of Dot.AY's work is based in live performance this has developed into regular live shows in and around Brisbane as well as supporting international acts such as Crystal Castles, Girl Talk and Dan Deacon. ok that was packed and truly off beat. Some of the performers plugged up several game boys, and generated beats & sounds solely from them. Mad.

This week we have that Portishead album special as promised. Trip hop, downtempo, chill out, brooding beat lovers, this one will be good. Lephrenic, myself and special audio/visual entertainment planned.

Thursday May 1st, 8pm-late, inspired by Chinese buffet.

twas fun and chill, and it was cool to sit back and enjoy a CD instead of worrying about playing. More of that in the future.

Next week we'll be experimenting with some technical items, such as plugging a Nintendo Wii into the projectors.

alritey, apparently they booked some art chick to speak for a couple of hours and that sounds boring as shit, so we're taking the week off.

We're also concluding our weekly series next Thursday May 15th with our big BEAT OFF! Which will probably feature the Wii.
