Darkbeat presents Hybrid [4 Hour Set]

Image

Mike Truman and Chris Healings have been writing, producing, touring and DJing all over the globe for the best part of a decade and have amassed nearly 250 productions to date. The duo have written three LPs, 'Wide Angle' which was released in 1999, “Morning Scifi” released in 2003 and “I Choose Noise” in 2007 on Distinctive Records.

They were chosen by Moby to support him on his Autumn 2000 North American tour which covered 43 dates over 56 days. This gave the fledgling band time to get ready for their first punishing global tour over 18 months taking them to every venue that matters from as far afield as Australia, Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival, Melbourne for the Millennium NYE, across Europe and back to the UK to headline many festival tents and concert venues.

Their second album’s more fragile and darker sound has led them to getting involved with scoring for film and the duo worked with Harry Gregson Williams in January 2004 on Tony Scott's 'Man On Fire'. Since then they have been involved in the production of the score for Ridley Scott's 'Kingdom Of Heaven' and the Tony Scott films, 'Domino' and “Déjà Vu” and have recently completed their first solo score for Twisted Pictures newest production, 'Catacombs'.

Now touring as a full seven piece band, Hybrid spent last summer playing live in the US, Australia and Europe, working with Perry Farrell from Jane's Addiction, Peter Distefano from Porno For Pyros and Hooky from New Order. Now fronted by permanent singers Charlotte James and John Graham they are currently working on album four while busy with touring, film projects and a DJ compilation to be released this summer.

Hybrid will be bringing their legendary skills behind the decks to Darkbeat for a mammoth 4 hour set !

Hybrid will be on at 12 midnight !!

Support: Gavin Keitel, Sean Quinn, Danny Bonnici (Nubreed), Rollin Connection, Deviant, Stray, Citizen.com + More

Brown Alley, Cnr King & Lonsdale St, City

$18+BF tickets available online soon

oh yes !!

I have been waiting for this, since I saw the post on inthemix that they were coming back to aus.

I may have to come out of hiding for this one. :D

Just hope they play their own songs, last set was more other peoples stuff. But this could be because they just played at summadayze doing their live thing earlier that day.

Info on Hybrid's new CD Soundsystem 01 and what they have been upto lately ....

“Cinematic” is a term long associated with acclaimed dance-music innovators Hybrid—and that widescreen emphasis comes even more into focus on Hybrid’s ground-breaking new double-disc mix collection, Soundsystem 01

On CD 1 of Soundsystem, Truman and Healings fuse actual film scores and ambient electronica together for the first time, making for an unforgettable downtempo odyssey: here, glitchy, atmospheric tracks from Trentemoller, Spooky, Andy Page, and new Hybrid vocalist Charlotte James (who contributes a haunting new chill-out classic, “Shadows of the City”) blend seamlessly with edgy score selections from films like Babel and 28 Days Later. “It gives a good insight into glorious bits of music we thought should see light of day,” Truman says.

Soundsystem CD 2 shifts the duo’s trademark progressive/breaks sound into a predominantly techier, 4/4-driven groove. “I’ve never actually played just one style, so this is a real reflection of our DJ sets—of what’s actually in our record box,” Healings explains. “This mix isn’t so much banging as it is a refined journey through today’s clubbing experience: a little bit progressive, a little bit chunky and tech-housey, with some techno and breakbeat in the middle. Basically, when we DJ, we go everywhere: we’ll throw on whatever works to both get people moving and create a real listening experience at the same time.”

Didn't mean to be a sooky pants before...

just that Parklife '05 Hybrid may be THE BEST electronic music performance I've seen:

not in order, but I remember:

Unkle - Reign (Way out west mix)

Gus Gus - David (Chable mix)!!!!!

Radiohead - Everything in its right place (hybrid mix) OMFG!

just to name a few

felt like I was 4 feet off the ground

and their set at NYD didn't match that...

then again, my expectations were through the roof...
