yea but i obv never fill it to the top - 100L max i'd say otherwise it starts getting a bit scary.

gonna buy one of these - Image
then put one of these in it - Image (beerbelly false bottom)

and then thats my 120L mash tun sorted.

Then all i need is another 80L pot with a 2400w element in it to heat my water (HLT) and put a sight gauge on it.

After that it'll be welb up a nice brew frame for it all to sit neatly in like this - Image

last but will be a march pump so i dont have to lift hot water anymore - Image

Then years down the track i'll end up automating it with PID control box's and specific written software to control temps, flow rates etc etc.

120L pot w/ tap fitted and hop screen - $365
120L esky w/ BB Falsie and tap - $200
80L dedicated HLT w/ 2400w element fitted - $250
Brew frame materials and welding - $250 max maybe
March Pump - $259.95
Hose's, Fittings and misc shit - $200

The price of being able to make 100L of any beer i like....you know the score.

I use to brew in the laundry and store the bottles in the hot water cupbroard.
Man shed is excessive, but if you can get a bar and a beer fridge inside it as well = major win.

nice site menace but theres not heaps of all grain recipes on there, looks good for kits and partials tho.

as far as setting you up your best bet is to go to a homebrew shop and ask for a starter kit - $75 and you'll get everything including your first brew.

option 2 is to walk into kmart or target and buy a coopers kit off the shelf - $60 and again it includes absolutley everything you'll need to start up again incl your first brew.

tightarse option 3 is to go to bunnings, buy a 30L fermentor, drill a hole in the top, then go buy all the bits separate from a homebrew shop, heres a list if you decide this route :
1 Airlock
1 Airlock grommet
1 Mash Paddle / Spoon
1 plastic tap for fermenter
1 Sediment reducer for tap
Hydrometer and test jar
stick on thermoter
Bottles
Crown Seals
Bottle capper - get a good one, not a hammer capper youll kill yourself
Bottle brush

then buy your ingredients for your first brew and your done. let me know if you need anything.

hey fents,

i am thinking about buying a starter kit this weekend.

do u recon for my first brew it would be a better idea to buy a can kit,
or should i go straight into the grains?

i got a book on it the other day, mashing is just adding water to grains yeah?

there aint no actuall mashing as the name would suggest is there?

Walk before ya run mate.

Go to a good homebrew shop and just get a basic starter kit or waltz into kmart and buy a coopers fermenter kit off the shelves for about $70 i think they are.

For your first one just do a normal kit but add some malt extract and some hops to make it nicer than a plain kit. Heres a good starter recipe. :

PeteyBear Ale

1 Tin Of Goo (we call goo the stuff taht comes in cans on the shelf - coopers can, brigalow, tooheys etc)
1 Tin of Cooper Liquid Malt extract (any good brew store will sell it)
500Grams Dextrose
20Grams Amarillo Hops

Put the tim of coopers liquid malt extract in a pot with 3 litres of water and bring to the boil. Boil it for 30mins adding 10grams of hops at the start of the boil and 10grams of hops with 5 mins left of the boil (25mins into the boil) then turn off.

Pour your tin of Goo (coopers Ale tin?) into the fermenter along with the 500grams dextrose, then strain the stuff you boiled into the fermenter through a strainer and mix it all together really well. Top up fermenter with cold water to 21Litres. Seal it all up, leave it to ferment (at 18c) for 9 days, prime your bottles, bottle it, drink it.

Get my digits off steve and give me a bell and depending on how long ya got to talk i'll tell ya more or come to my joint one sat morn and we'll go to my homebrew shop just round the corner and get dave to sort ya out down there in one big hit.

ones liquid extract ones powder extract, wont make too much diff mate but i find it used to dissolve better in the fermenter than the dried stuff (used to clump together a bit).

BRB Lager

1 can of coopers bavarian Lager
1 can of Light Liquid Malt extract
20 grams of hops (add 10g's at 10mins and dry hop in your fermenter with the other 10g's) - your choice but i'd go somthing like sazz or hallertau

BRB Ale

1 can Coopers Canadian blonde
1KG Dry Wheat Extract
500g of DME or 300g of dex (to thin it out somewhat)
200g Med. Crystal
20g Amarillo @ 20 mins
20g Amarillo @ 5 mins
20g Amarillo @ Flameout

well you can always reduce it. APA's are all about the hops. It will be a bit green/grassy but will def die down say over 2 weeks in the bottle.

actually thinking about it i'd make it :

10g Amarillo @ 20 mins
15g Amarillo @ 5 mins
20g Amarillo @ Flameout

as the blonde kit will already be a tiny bit bitterness hopped...so we'll cut the first addition in half them ramp up the amounts towards the end so you get the lovley amarillo flavour / aroma and not so much bitterness.

well on theroy its actually better to brew lagers through winter as you need to ferment them between 10-12c or theraabouts so in colder months it easier to do this, ulitamiltly if you had room you would brew a shit load of lagers in winter and drink them in summer and brew stouts and pale ales in summer as they need to frement a bit higher 18c etc in summer and drink them all in winter...good stout in winter is good as you know i cant handle to much of it.

reality is though unless you have good stock its not gonna happen thats why you need a soare brewing fridge to fermnt your beers in and a temnp controller on it to keep it a cinstant temp, then you can brew whatevr you like whenever you like.

fuk that took ages to type, had a few ey. :tard:
