Thanks Miss Wit. I'm so in two minds about it. Usually making decisions is easy cause I either feel or think strongly one way or the other, but this one has me beat up. Logic says it doesn't have what I need and I should just leave it.

What programs do you like/recommend? Some I have:

UrbanSpoon: Restaurant/Cafe finder. Really good app, you can pick your location, price range and style you want or shake it and get completely random choice.

Photoswap: Take an interesting pic and wait for something interesting in return from anywhere in the world. (Although lately it seems to be getting taken over by perverts)

Tap Tap Revenge: Kinda like guitar hero for iPhone. Neat little game to play when you're bored on the train/tram.

IceTv: Tv guide. The favourites function is really handy.

Nice ones above, the tv guide wil be good too.

Oh, we got a transport timetable one the other day. VERY handy that one when you rely on pubic transport.

There are lots of quality apps.. but finding them is a joke. Apple needs to have some kind of quality control.
Their review/rating system is also worthless

Serious thinking about the IR-909 app.

Image

IR-909 is a drum machine for the iPhone inspired by the Roland TR-909. IR-909 features a 16-step sequencer, 4 patterns and 8 different drum sounds. IR-909 includes individual pitch, attack and length controls for each sample. By default IR-909 comes with 6 different sample packs, these include the original TR-909 pack, TR-808, TR-707 and TR-606 packs, plus two additional ones called "Tech House" and "Kärv".

Two favourite apps for free:

Shazam: Seriously amazing. Takes a sample of about 10 seconds of a tune and then tells you what it is. Not great with DnB but has proven itself to me with some failry obscure finds.

Remote: Remote for your itunes while at home, very handy.

Never works for me in a noisy environment such as a bar or club which is generally the only time I'm going to hear a song and want to know what it is.

Yeah, I have had that a bit, club especially. worked for me in a bar, but was not overly loud with background noise. Still think it is great app, even for mixes without track lists etc.

Oh noes! I just got the white screen of death!

Screen was completely white and I couldn't do anything, not even turn it off.
After reading up about it on the internet (this seems to happen to an alarming amount of people) I fixed it by doing a hard reset.
But for some it happens so often they have to get their phone replaced.

Was having probs with my iPhone, took it to the mac shop and they replaced it on the spot with a brand new one.
Like that service!
Compared to my old phone that I had probe with and had to send off 4 times, for 2 weeks at a time for 'service' that never fixed the bloody problems.
Nice!

actually some people get that with all mobile phones. my sister for example gets electric shocks from all mobile phones.

a small number of people are super sensitive to mobile phones. I remember reading about a test that was conducted on groups of people with a mobile phone that had an antenna at both ends, that the testers could switch the signal between. some people in the group could tell which antenna was being used and when it was being switched.

so my point is you might find new phone doesn't fix the problem (but it might too).

It's made by t-mobile, but uses the Android OS which is an open platform developed by Google.
It won't be as restrictive for developers as the iphone, so hopefully there will be some fully awesome apps out there.

isn't it a rebranded HTC phone?

HTC usually make really nice looking and functioning phones
i've heard the next model of the google phone will be much more pleasing on the eye (hopefully slimmer too)

and the open source side of it and all the in-built google apps like maps and gmail and stuff is enticing

plus having a physical keyboard AND touch is a good thing imo. much quicker and easier to type, even easier than stylus ones
blackberries are going that route too i think

the thing about android though is that the software is proceed directly to fail (do not collect $200), and the hardware ain't great either. the iphone's actually a joy to use and everything feels just like it should, which i never thought i'd say.
