Some of it is personal preference bout what u want to hear. I use Tannoy Active Reveals - they're a decent monitor and have a softer sound than most - which for me means you can work with em for longer. I've heard the Tapco S5 and I liked it, though I'd go the S8 over the S5 - they're both Mackie built monitors, very very good value.

Give those Samson's a listen Timmy... you'll be surprised, admittedly they're not know for high-end audio - but these have been getting really good raps around the country... Come in two size, the smaller ones (5a's) and the big brothers (6a's) - wikkid value for money... I can give u a demo at my work if it'll help u out...
these are nice monitors, ive got a pair of the krk's although the production of krk's are now being made in china and since then' ive heard they havnt been put together aswell as they were in usa.juicy badness wrote:i can def recommend the krk rokit series, very good value monitors

I love my Behringer Truths
I got the B2031s and they're bang on for writing in a small bedroom set-up.
I know a few peeps who have just switched to them from Yamaha NTS and have never looked back.
For a bigger room the Mackies are great, and for A/Bing the Yamahas provide a great contrast.

word took my sp8s to amuldays in a lil room they sounded quiet as, unless we were like 10 meteres away in another roomMotive wrote:another factor in choosing your monitors is room size, bigger the room, bigger the monitor choice. I've heard the big boys Mackie 824s in a tiny room, and they really didn't sound so good, they need a bit of space from walls and a bit of throw.
here they are crystal clear

South Melbourne, forget the name now, they set you up a trade acct which prob helps with the price. I think the retail is $2700, but I scored them for $1800. Cables from Mannys clearance sale $10 each.Fents wrote:I think thats what keir use's and they sound dope.factory worker wrote:I picked up some Genelec 8030a's. They're so good my PC crashed.

My first real experience with mixing was on those Genelec 1030's, they had a set on display when I picked up the new ones.
How shit did previous mixdowns sound with decent monitors? Bass was real woolly and some mid range tones cut through too loud.

true.. but they don't make it any easier to mixdown i don't think. you definitely get a clearer idea of how it sounds but making things sound good on all systems is still tuff.. comes down to understanding your monitors...factory worker wrote:My first real experience with mixing was on those Genelec 1030's, they had a set on display when I picked up the new ones.

Can anyone give me a general review of M-Audio's monitor range if they have any experience with them please?
I too would like to know.
My mate has a pair of bx8a, they sound good i think (but i dont know shit about monitors). Considering cos i can get them from a mate in America for cheaper than what they are here which is around $1100 -$1300 i hear.
monitoring is very subjective, I know heaps of people who swear by Genelec, I find them really fatigueing. Mackie hr624's are my fave or KRK rokkit 6's.
