That is shiteful TBH. Pretty much going to miss at least 2 acts I paid to see.

Good Vibrations Main (Stage 1):
07:10pm - 08:10pm THE PRESETS (AU)
08:40pm - 10:00pm FATBOY SLIM (UK)

Roots (Stage 2):
06:00pm - 07:00pm RONI SIZE REPRAZENT (UK)
07:30pm - 08:30pm THE PHARCYDE (USA)
09:00pm - 10:00pm Q-TIP (USA)

Laundry (Stage 3):
07:20pm - 08:40pm STANTON WORRIORS (UK)
08:40pm - 10:00pm DEADMAU5 (CA)

always the same with these gigs.

clashes with the only great acts.

overcrowding.

the worst tho, is waiting for hours and hours in screaming crowds, for an act like Rhazel, only to not hear ONE WORD over the shit house stage behind it.

never again.

amen.

this is true direkt, roni size repra would be amazing at night, but stupid sidney myer would just do what they did with high contrast last year and have fuck all sound and no bass. so minimal that wrec(i think?) got off stage and ran to the sound tent only to be told to fuck off.

I've got friends over from Adelaide and friends at work going, and they've talked me into it.

I've never seen Q-tip before, so that's an added bonus. Pity he's clashing with Fat Boy Slim though.

the organisers are a few screws loose by the looks of the set times, look at the main stage too, i would be happier to see artists which appeal to the certain music listener earlieer on main stage rather than some of the other shite thats on that stage

ah well will be a fun day regardless

Hey Skiba - I was blown away by Roni - and I am also a huge fan of MC dynamite, so I was a happy camper - right up the front. I have never seen DnB done live like that - 2 times Brown Paper bag was a bit weird though??

FBS was only so so imho

but a fun day overall... :blob3:

I thought Reprazent were very good, I had low expectations so pleasantly surprised. Onalee and Dynamite really owned that massive stage.

Great set up for the Roots stage as well, with the massive screens on either side. Made a really nice change from the shabby Roots stage of years past. Sound was still a little patchy, but definitely an improvement.

Highlight of the day for me though was absolutely Pharcyde. The killed it and played all my favourite tunes. I was in heaven.

and Q Tip was a nice way to end the day.

My review:

Good vibes was much, much better at Flemmington.

The venue, whilst dusty and severely lacking in natural shade, is much bigger and stages can be spaced out better. The sound bleed was not a very big issue, unlike the last few years. Sound still was a little off during some performances, especially in the "Laundry" Stage, but overall it was much, much better.

The organisers are still stupid cunts for putting the biggest headlining acts all on at the same time though.

Performance wise, everyone was great. Finland's Rico Tubbs plays some awesome oldschool rave mixed with newschool breaks, really getting into it by dancing around the stage, picking up the CDJ to scratch. Chromeo were alright, but I'm completely over the 80s electro sounds of these bands. Missed Wale completely because was in a few lines for beer/food/toilet :(

Roni Size was ok. Where Pendulum are a rock band trying to play dnb, Roni Size's raprenzent is more like a funk band playing dnb. Better musos, better music.

Caught a little bit of The Presets when in another line. Whilst I think Presets are best at doing this retro electro sound, refer to my comments about Chromeo.

Pharcyde tore it up. They do a cover of "My Perogative", doing the typical Bobby Brown dance moves which is funny as fuck. Supernat jumped on stage and busted his freestyle rhymes about people in the audience and items they had. They did their version of "Dirty Harry" by Gorillaz, plus their own tracks, such as "passing me by", pulling a bunch of sluts on stage for it.

Caught the first 20 minutes of Fatboy Slim. He's never been the greatest DJ technically, but it seems he's actually learnt to mix! It was the typical Fatboy Slim sound, but he was having fun and the crowd were going nuts.

Q-Tip was the real highlight for me. I've never seen him before, and he's fucking wicked. So much energy, and with a full band backing him it made the performance so much more energetic. I had a thought whilst he was on - he's the perfect act for Womad. He's got appeal to hiphop fans, yet his music is so textured and complex as well as laid back, it would also suit more musically conservative people who don't normally like hiphop. He also dedicated his set to the Bush Fire Victims - the only artist to do so as far as I was aware.

All up it was a great day. Exceed my, admittedly low, expectations. If it's there next year, and they put some decent acts, I'd go again.

complaining about brown paper bag being played twice should be illegal.
roni repras set was amazing, actually the only thing i paid real attention too all day apart from fat boy, donked it a lil too hard and was floundering under a tree for a lot of the afternoon. found fat boy a lil hard to get into though, and a big what the fuck again to putting all the headliners around the same time when there was dick all on earlier in the day.

will go next year, needs more dnb at outdoor festivals, not just because its something im into, but its clear that most crowds gets the most lively to it, even if they havnt heard it before.

I had a great day.. everything was well organised and set up. My only gripe is that the Laundry stage was too small.. both the tent and the sound.
There were more people at that stage than there was at the Roots stage at any given point during the day.
Oh and what happened to Yelle? She either didn't play or played so late I missed it :(

That was a great day out, I'm a fan of Flemington as well, some shade cloths would have been good on the open spaces but I can't really fault anything else.

Q-Tip was an awesome awesome way to end the day - Reprazent also was fun for a good dance - I've seen the exact same 60 minute festival set from them before, and it as still awesome the second time because of their energy.

Spent way too much time drinking beer and not enough scooting round the different stages though, gutted to have missed Pharcyde.

I don't really understand why festivals always have people complaining about set clashes towards the end of the day/night. If an artist is booked as a headliner, and think they should be a headlining act, they won't want to play in the middle of the afternoon -The more great acts there are the more there'll be headliner clashes ... it's the way festivals are, no point complaining - just pick your tent and dance!

Best part of the day actually. Random fly-kick to the head styles. Even his mate had to give props for that.

yeah it was small

reprazent killed it

stantons were good fun. wheres my money?

thought the same thing about yelle, was it a yelle dj set or something? wasted the effort walking over to that stage. it didn't say Yelle (Live) so i think it was a dj set and thats what a mate said, pity cos they were great fun at parklife 07

really pissed i missed pharcyde, qtip and deadmau5, fking clashes...

fatboy was good to see, figured i may not get another chance - great visuals too. pity he finished with 'love is in the air', we were standing there bemused while everyone right off chops were hugging. reminds me of strictly ballroom. not cool

Simple - clashes don't happen at events organised by promoters based in Sydney or Adelaide, nor at events like the Big Day Out.

Hell, I went to Kid Koala "with special guests TZU" last Friday and TZU were on at the same time as Kid Koala? I mean come on! WTF?!?

There is a little crossover in Adelaide / Sydney, but not complete clashes like here in Melbourne.

Roni absolutely killed it, roots staged was packed for reprezent.
i was so happy after roni finished played, i will really remember that set for a long time to come.
someone above mentioned it was hard to get into fatboys set at the end, i would have to agree some really chessey tunes and no real vibe but to his credit he still drawed everyone in by the end. cursing that i missed deadmau5 for the close but the staged looked packed and i was to toasted to stroll over lolz
so any feed back on deadmau5??

Fuck that. Why should people paying to see these headline acts (let's face it, that's why we're there) miss out just to pander to their egos? They put all these big names on to get people there, but it's false advertising imo, as it is physically impossible to see all the acts you have PAID to see.

Flemington was a pain in the ass for something like this..

we were very lucky to find a cab within 30 minutes of walking from the grounds

fatboy was weak amongst the poorest line up theyve had in years... pharcyde and q-tip were pretty good... lots of noise bleed between stages... limited alcohol, including that retarded one per person limit that cricket also adopts (a good system for people with no friends, however)... met some good random people

big commercial festivals whoopee!

I thought flemington was a great venue, good shade spots, enough dunnies, lines not too huge to get a drink. Tbh thought it was one of the weakest/least diverse line ups vibes has had in the 4 years I have been going. Seemed to be less on early that I was super keen to see.

Stantons were good, Roni fun also, Fat boy slim was taking the piss surely, for the most part pure cheese tunes and pretty average mixing, heard a lot of people sounding pretty dissapointed walking away from his set, was not expecting great things but was well below even these expectations (Sydney reports are even worse). The only bonus was we left 1/2 way though his set and didnt have to much trouble getting a cab.

Managed to to do the typical festival thing and miss a few things that I am kicking myself for now.
