dubstep getting played out on main stages at festivals would suck..
but as for dubstep taking over, what are you people on? drum&bass and dubstep are 2 different styles of music..

but for all those who were at wobble last saturday night would know how well these styles go together..

but thats just my 2 cents on the topic..

DEGENERATI0N wrote:...when dubstep first hit the scene i hated it because it was all smokers delight and boring but now it has developed this colossal mutating tech doom filth aspect and even though i dont feel it will ever surpass dnb in any way shape or form it has definitely secured itself as "second best" in my books, ...
First few times I thought it was an absolute wank with people swaying and nodding their heads (first Benga gig)... but it seems that with time, (attempted) understanding, more exposure and more experimentation... it's building - more energy, bigger crowds and more interest from ppl.

From what I have seen, the dance floor is definitely displaying more energy now with more attitude. It's energy will not surpass a DnB crowd (IMO). I honestly feel like I have been ganked walking through a dubstep dance floor as opposed to a DnB floor (starkey). But in saying that... B & S @ Hi Fi surpassed everyone's expectations and was pretty f*ckn fun.
DnB used to promote dubstep, but having dubstep on the bill is now a win and having both together is a double win (IMO again)
I guess it's all evolution..... and just more of it... so DnB heads feel a little 'threatened' (maybe for lack of a better word) that DnB will die or DnB djs & producers won't have as much work... and us poor lil punters will have to go to dubstep gigs ( :dontknow: )
As long as there is bass... then all will be ok I guess

conflicting mathematix eh!
could dubstep be posssibly counted at two different bpm sets?

I've been busy listening to numerous podcasts to educate myself on this topic. Mainly due to the majority of responses here being directed personally at me, rather than assisting my search or adding something interesting to the discussion.. i do retract my statement about dubstep using recycled dnb sounds.. there are definitely a lot of ingenious and inventive sounds used in a lot of productions i've listened to in the last week or so which has made me reconsider.

out to all the forum geeks here, that consider posting on this forum is a worthy contribution to the Melbourne dnb & dubstep scene, and who consider their themselves above the rest because of their post count due to sitting on here posting garbage in most threads... why dont you get out there and throw a party, release some tunes or at least do something recognisable. fucking tosser attitude.

B: Yes of course they do, im also the reason that life on earth exists so go tell your mum.
Ok, well I'll go with A.

I just fail to see how your positioning of dubstep as "second best" under dnb is a "huge compliment".

What I was getting at is;

Your taste in music is relevant only to yourself.

that is true, ive revised my choices as entertainment only relevant to myself and you may have noted that it was in "my book" and not in ''your book"

i hated dubstep, now i like it. theres the compliment its not rocket science and i dont want to give any kind of impression that i somehow think my opinion matters to anybody.

bonsai wrote:many people here know my opinion of dubstep. its not personal, purely provocative.

i support, appreciate and respect artists that use original ideas and intuitive production techniques.

dubstep djs, producers and fans seem to believe that it will take over dnb/jungle, but it is in fact a completely different genre, with neither the technicality nor anywhere NEAR as much dancefloor energy.

the sounds used in dubstep tunes are dnb/jungle samples and synths. who honestly wants to hear the same sounds we've heard for 15 years, recycled at -100bpm.

in my opinion I believe dubstep, as a genre, uses Drum and Bass as a promotional tool. eg. dnb forums, myspace and dnb gigs/flyers.

dubstep is passe

wtf does this have to do with anything? At no point has anyone given the impression that posting here makes them above others.

And for the record, half the people that posted in this thread DO make tunes and throw parties.

rofl. pretty much all the people who've posted in this thread contribute directly to the 'scene' whether or not they promote play or create tunes.

ps. nobody really gives a fuck about postcount and believing that anybody does is a fucking tosser attitude. grasping at straws much?

As far as dubstep goes... I'm a dyed-in-the-wool dnb head, have been for many years and I definitely do not like dubstep. For me its a matter of energy... i don't feel the same energy in dubstep as I do with dnb. A lot of it seems really flat and lifeless. I'm not a producer so I don't appreciate the subtle technical aspects.

From my eyes it looks like dubstep is very much the sound of 'now' just as dnb was 7 or 8 years ago. Fact of the matter is that dnb is fading away and there were always going to be other forms of music to take its place. Not every fan of dnb is going to appreciate the new stuff.

Each to their own though.

not being a prik but... :P :P :P :P

most of the breaks guys posting in this thread at least DJ and probably produce too.
Foundation and engine been doing their thing for ages.
Fooishbar promotes and DJ's - spends his hard earned cash cutting dubs even.
Same'O promtes and DJ's and does a radio show.
I've seen Hardy smash the Hi-Fi back in the day.
Flash has been producing for ages and has a tune out and more to come in comming months.
L-J DJ's regularly, and does a weekly radio show.
Cammo has been promoting dubstep since day one back in 06 + played in syd.
Spherix has tunes on wax and bare tunes to come this year. Played Syd, Adelaide + NZ.
I've got tunes on wax, I started a label (left now, but still), played interstate and festivals etc
Spin does about 500 parties a month of various genres.
Deviant hasn't even had time for a haircut since he started DJ'ing he's been that hard on it.
on tour (Lex), you'd know if you were into DnB I'm guessing.
argument pretty much founded dance music in Australia, get to know.
cbf'ed digging up the bio's of every cunt in the thread but ya get my point...

so........ who are you refering too exactly? Come on name names I want drama!

even if a clown had never opened a sequencer, put on a party or dropped a needle, they would still think the whole premise of your thread was bare lolz and would feel an itch to respond. Even if for just a brief WTF.

So anyways, what else is going on then? spill the beanz etc. Do you think House is going to make a move to overthrow breakcore? I've been fucking worried about this for time because house blatantly uses Bacardi breezers to promote itself, and I'm more of a beer and heroin man personaly.
