Go for it, C-man. I'll keep my ear to the ground... would you be interested in working in a professional services role that wasn't purely accounting (e.g. being accountant for large-scale infrastructure project, working for environmental consulting firm etc)? If so, lemme know. :)

A friend of mine is in need of a computer programer to do casual work.
Looking for with someone with PHP and mysql experience willing to do contract work on web projects.

Experience with AJAX required and dojo experience would be a bonus. Pay would be around $30 an hour. Hours per week would be on a project by project basis.

The work is interesting and involves working with the latest web API's including twitter API and google maps API and others, so if you like web mashups this would be perfect.
If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll hook it up for you.

Cheers

How would you rate his/her performance?

If you think you can do better than that and have skills with report generation using sql server, pm me...

Edit: here are full details of the job:
Develop and maintain a flexible, company-wide reporting solution using TM1 and other reporting software as appropriate
· Troubleshoot common problems with TM1 regarding data accuracy and deployment
· Administer and maintain the company’s reporting solutions
· Ensure TM1 availability and business continuance
· Strong experience with DTS/SSIS and SQL Server 2000/2005
· Excellent technical skills developing reports and solutions using SSRS
· A demonstrated understanding of finance and supply-chain management systems
· Creative problem-solving and software engineering skills
The non-essential stuff that will help get you to the top of our list:
· Experience with MDX and development of OLAP cubes
· Hands-on knowledge of Pronto ERP or similar

Two very good friends who are also ex co-workers lost their jobs today because of a technicality, without getting into details both of them had been with the company for 5 and 6 years respectively, now all down the drain and fired by a manager who's been in the company for around 7-8 months to make an example of them. Their infraction is something really minor that hasn't affected their performance or quality of work.

Totally fucked and i'm really cheesed off about it. Glad my contract wasn't renewed with that company. Assholes.

for sure, but don't let loyalty keep you from looking for something else to make you happier... if you're not happy... look or something better, which is unfortunate for them. It may be a crappy time to look, but there are always other oportunities.

in all honesty, i think a lot of people are scared of 'the climate' at the moment so are staying put. there are jobs out there, and you might just find there's a smaller pool of applicants because people are reluctant to move around.

have a look what's out there liz, no harm in that. for all you know there might be the perfect position out there for you, there might be several. you won't know until you look though and you might be pleasantly surprised. ;)

This might sound a bit fucked up, but honestly if you went and approached them and said you were un-happy at work and they didn't offer you SOMETHING be it monetary or otherwise they really aren't valuing you the way you deserve to be.

Even if they had tried to come to the table and think of solutions to try and make you happier.

Seriously it doesn't hurt to throw your resume out there test the waters see what you could get both money wise and satisfaction wise.

I managed to change jobs 3 times between November and March well to be specific between Halloween and easter, theres still jobs out there its just tougher market cause employers are being more picky about who they're willing to spend the money on because of the hype around the "gfc" haha sorry I love that acronym.

(sorry about the punctuation I'm feeling real lazy)

At this stage looking to pay up to AUD$120k per annum, but that will increase as his firm grows, he says.

No joke, this was in the spec I just got sent by a recruiter for a legal job:

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the environment is moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds

HR have got to be taking the mickey with that one!! I get odd stuff for internal jobs in my inbox every week.... 'desperately seeking specialist in random obscure animal' kind of stuff:
We (Denver) have a project that requires a large ungulate expert. The job basically is to evaluate the impacts of snowmobiles on bison in Yellowstone Park.

This work will undergo tight scrutiny and likely will be litigated.

If you qualify (PhD and 10+ years of experience with wildlife -- large ungulates), please give me a call.
Hi

Artic - Sub Artic Specialist - URGENT PLEASE

Urgently looking for an internationally renowned specialist in artic-sub artic, ecosystems, mammals and whales in particular.

I suspect we dont have a whale specialist but surely we know of/use ones who do/understand commercially focused consultancy work.
The Toronto office are looking for some advice and assistance conducting an Earth Worm study in Ontario, Canada. I am looking to find someone who has experience in conducting Earth Worm studies.
