Getting Music
Getting Music
So, digital downloads.
Where are the best places to get randon stuff?
Lots of the stuff I want is random / indie / disco and doesn't appear on Juno (which is the only site I really use normally) at all.
It does appear on iTunes, but I can't choose bitrate there (right?)
What other non dance specific sites are out there?

Re: Getting Music
I use a great store called Soulseek.
Re: Getting Music
actually, if you buy the iTunes Plus files (or whatever they're called), they're DRM-free and lossless. a lickle more expensive tho.tight red jeans with a purple scarf and tasteful orange raincoat wrote:So, digital downloads.

Re: Getting Music
Apple plus seems to be 256K AAC no DRM?
Are you talking about something else?
Most of the stuff I want is on iTunes.

Re: Getting Music
Beatport have a pretty comprehensive electronica section now.
Re: Getting Music
These are all good, but lots of the stuff I want is old disco.
iTunes has lots of it, but not lossless.

Actually, I've been finding some good Disco Edits on Beatport and Juno lately. All the South City Allstars stuff is wicked. Look em up on My Space because they and their friends have links to heaps of sites that you'd probably dig for this type of music.
Re: Getting Music
I think I'm confusing people!
Lots of the stuff I want is old disco. As in produced in 1980 and not a reissue, remix or new release.
Maybe iTunes at 256 AAC is the only way to go?

Re: Getting Music
I always go iTunes when I can. their AACs sound really good. and at $1.69 they're cheaper than the rest.
Re: Getting Music
Interesting. And you play them out / put them on your mixes?

Re: Getting Music
most of the proper obscure 80s shit isn't gonna come back in digital form, except for re-edits.
do like the rest of us disco freaks and deal with having to buy vinyl for that fix.
shame some of the really killer stuff is stupidly priced up by the whole holland disco fetishist scene (hoping one day to get a copy of gigi tonet - why? for under 100 euro).

Re: Getting Music
For most major release stuff, try: BigPond.
Cheap as fuck, quick downloads, 320kbps MP3's and a range as big as iTunes.
The site isn't exactly the best though, and your niche markets aren't catered for - that's the downside.

Other than that, I use Beatport, Juno Download and the odd label site.
