I wish quality beer was free too, but if I could afford expensive beer daily I would no doubt.

Depends what kind of wine you drink...hehehe eg. Goon.

Depends what wine you're drinking...

Price definitely plays a part in my purchases. Be nice if it didn't - but I don't have an endless supply of cash.

Best bargain buys IMO:
Coopers - any kind, I prefer in order: Sparkling, Stout, Pale
Rogers - around $15-16 a 6'er
Hahn Premium... if you're gonna drink lager, this is alright. Good for summer. Found 'em for $12 a 6 last season. Not my fave lager, but I prefer it to Heinekin, Becks (these days) and Stella etc.

Having said that, my regulars at present are Goat Hightail, LCPA and Rogers.

EDIT: Indeed Amick.

You didn't say you'd have to give up ever drinking alcohol again.

TBH - getting drunk all the time has lost its appeal. Not saying it doesn't happen anymore for me... but not every drink has to be about getting plastered.

Anyone else tried Pepperjack? Just picked up a 6 pack for Dan's. It is ok this is the description from the label
Pepperjack ale brings together the best in craft brewing and contemporary Barossa winemaking. This rouge coloured ale has been created using the finest malted barely grains, intensely aromatic hops and Pepperjack's very own Barossa Valley Shiraz. Exhibiting profound fruit driven aromatics that add tothe complexity of the unique selection of barley and hop, Pepperjack Ale can be enjoyed on any occasion but is best suited to your fridge rather than your cellar.
It is pretty light on the taste and has no bold flavour or after taste and a sight fruit flavour. Its worth trying but definitely not something I would drink on a regular basis.

tasty. 30% cherry juice and thus only 3.6%
fairly girly of course. the proof is even my gf liked it and she hates beer

also been enjoying Czech beers lately...had a few diff ones out and about can't remember names apart from Budvar of course but all awesome

where can i get Schofferhofer 6packs/slab, especially at the kinda price amick mentioned??

It's all about the Kingfisher this week....

$10 for a 6er, or pay $40 for a slab and get a 6er Free.

I went the slab option.

Schoffer can be obtained from Dan's for $21-22 a 6, depending on which one you get.

DBoy - yep, Al posted it up on the last page.

Feigs - Kingfisher is good for Indian food. It's a crisp, clean lager - but there's not much else going on there IMO.

Re: Pepperjack... yeah not bad... nothing flash though IMO. Loads of other local ales I'd prefer to drink.

Tried a beer from Seoul called Hite. Tasted like Carlton Cold. STAY AWAY!!!

Bought a 6 pack of South Africa's most prolific beer Castle Lager. Tasty but also average. Meh.

Went to Dan Murphy's today and they have American imported Budweiser in cans. Bought a couple. Feck me the yanks created a beer with no taste. No wonder the cunts there drink it by the bucketloads. Its like water but it'll get you drunk. Fuck that.

Also bought a slab of Asahi but its brewed in the UK. Might have to sell it to a mate. Should try one before i offload it. :beersnob:

i could be wrong, but i think the days of being able to find Asahi that was actually brewed in Japan are over, it all comes from UK, Singapore, Malaysia

same goes for Sapporo, all of it i've seen lately, cans and stubbies, was brewed in Canada

real shame, coz imo when you buy "Japan's finest" you actually want it to taste how it does in Japan

most Asian import beers are a crock as far as I'm concerned, you pay extra for them and they are rarely brewed in the proper country of origin........Tiger comes to mind also

All that said though, i don't really know what i'm talking about, would be keen to know what some beer snob's opinions are around here on this subject.........Fents/Direkt????????

asian beers are 100% win... don't care where they're brewed, just how they taste... apparently Asahi in Japan is crap and tastes better here... Dan, is that right?

Deffo agree with that, Asahi in Japan is the VB of Japanese beers, actually I would probably drink VB as it has a taste (even if it's a bad one!)

Whilst most international beers purchased in your general Australian store are rarely brewed in their country or origin these days, I don't think retailers are going out of their way to obtain genuine Asian beers as they are a Becks, Steller or Heini, for example.

Perhaps most people who drink these beers aren't quite so discerning. Perhaps the cost of directly importing said beers from country of origin would push them out of the price range for the majority of the drinkers, particularly in the price competitive market we now have.

TBH - the majority of Asian beers are very, very bland beers IMO. Pale, often thin and deprived of any remarkable flavour. Sure, they go well with a Thai curry or a fatty meal to cut through and cleanse the pallet, and I don't mind the odd Asahi, especially in the warmer months... good session beer.... still.... nothing for me to write home about.

And yet here I am, writing home about it.

Everyones right. you will find fuck all international mainstream beer thats actually brewed in its proper country...you think if you buy a fosters in the UK that its brewed in Australia? think again....(actually have heard their fosters tatste better than ours.)

Asian beers are funny - most are brewed with at least 20% rice, just like the Big Brewerys here use cane suguar (VB, Thooyes, XXXX) so they dont have to spend a shitload on proper grain. They all add adjuncts which is just something else other than grain to ferment. Most also use ISO Hops which is just a Hop Extract rather than real hops and combined with rice thats why you get that watery, thin, bitter tasting beer. They are good on a 40C sunny day so you can smash them down but thats about it. They appeal to the mass's cause they are easy to smash down and when people are drinking an asahi they feel like they are drinking a different cultured beer.

Asahi & Kirin are both rubbish in Japan imo, they don't even have the crisp taste they do here... More like VB I guess... Sapporo is just OK.. generally finding good beer is hard... the only import you really see around is Heineken, which isn't much better.

Brewed by the blokes who set up Little Creatures.

This beer is a open fermented ale, straight outta Healesville, Vic.
